When I bought my car a few months ago I could not get the keyless entry or alarm to work on my 95 840. I reinitialized the key to the car and magically it started working again...well sort of. The remote work fine a few feet away only in an enlosed area like my garage where the signal can bounce off the walls. When the car is outside however the remote will only work when the key is touching the hood exactly where the reciever is and then hitting the button. so the question i have is where do I start looking to diagnose the problem? could it be the key?, is there an antenna on the reciever that could be broken?, any suggestions oh and everything on the keyless entry is factory and not aftermarket.
