View Full Version : Congrats to Brian, David and Scott
Nihilation 09-30-2007, 09:46 PM For taking 1-2-3 in RWD Street Class at today's Redline Time Attack on the Shenandoah Circuit.
Exact lap times? Not sure, but I believe 1st and 2nd place was separated by less than 2 tenths of a second. :eyecrazy
Shady3One3 10-01-2007, 12:14 AM I totally called it on friday too.
Nice work guys, and congrats to that group of d00ds who finished right after them

mjOlson 10-01-2007, 10:39 AM Good show Brian; congrats on taking the win! Shaving your head for aerodynamic effect really made the difference as you thought it would. It's the little extra effort every time bud.

BIMMER3 10-01-2007, 02:51 PM I had a great day :alright, thanks a lot, all of you! ;)
After the 2nd TA, :shifty I was bummed, then happy, then bummed, then happy, then bummed, then really HAPPY that I had won my class, because no one knew our final times. :D David pushed me AND himself to the limit, and that made the day that much more fun. :redspot Walid's car is certainly a beast, but I was happy to break 1:40. It's scary to think what it could do on sticky tires. :eyecrazy 1:36, 1:35?
As early as I got up Sunday morning, I actually opted NOT to shave my head before coming up there! It was good to see everyone out there, especially RRT after all the crazyness lately. Sorry the car wasn't better, but hey, it's getting there.
I have some nice video, too. During a practice session, I pointed my camera down so all you can see is me driving, and it came out pretty good. It is much like David's video without the wide angle, so you can't see the track. It is a busy track, but I love using 2nd, 3rd and 4th so much!
spazegun2213 10-01-2007, 03:01 PM does anyone have pictures from the event? I've not seen any at all.

Those are a bunch of Jimmy's pics, mostly of Ash, Ken, and the RRT 323i.
Ken's friend Chris and Vinh were there, and they took over 2,000 shots, a few of each car there! There should be pics up in a few days. They have a lot of images to sort through.

Brian, you can borrow my ultra wide angle lens for the camcorder next time, if I have the right adapter ring for it. I use a bullet cam, so I have no need to use the attachment anymore.
I'm working on pedal and tach/speedo cams too!
e3opian 10-01-2007, 03:32 PM Just wanted to drop by and tell you all "great job" out there yesterday.

getfast 10-01-2007, 03:36 PM Wow, now I really wish I could've stayed for Sunday. :confused
Jon
BIMMER3 10-01-2007, 04:51 PM I already have a set of wide angle attachments, just never have gotten around to trying them out.
Talk to David about posting my videos, he's my youtube beeotch. David, come by and pick up my tapes soon!
Sorry I missed you Jon, and sorry I can't make it this weekend to Summit... or VIR. :( Neil Simon was also sorry he missed driving, but I have to thank him for his support, too. ;)
In the configuration we ran, the track is surely less than 2.2 miles, does anyone know the official length?
Nihilation 10-01-2007, 05:15 PM David can tell you this weekend. Just remind him to reset the tripometer on his first lap out.

Beat me to it. We're running the exact same configuration this weekend w/TrackDaze so I can find out the exact length.
Jon
Biggins 10-01-2007, 09:53 PM It was great to see everyone again before season's end. I had to leave a little after lunch because I had football games to watch.
Congrats Scott, David, Brian!!! An Evo from my old hometown of Hagerstown was leading the Street AWD class when I left. I was shocked to see someone from Hagerstown who knew SPR existed.
huge props to everyone!! nothing better than BMW domination in Street RWD. :)
ortiz's car is amazing and so is his driving. same goes for brian hair and the funktion auto m coupe. and scott did a helluva job knocking off 2 seconds from his previous best after a "pep-talk" and ross helping him get faster.
sucks for josh, car definitely fell flat on its face in the upper rpms. if the whistlin' e36 was running right, would've been an awesome battle for podium. :(
it was pretty funny/awesome to see street rwd guys beating most of the modified rwd guys on r-comps. brian was almost overall street champ, only 4/10ths of a second away!

ROFL! me give scott a pep talk? i donno about that, scott is really damn fast and catches on quick (damn autoxers learning to track *shakes fist*). His car is setup well and he knows it well. Scott just needs more seat time on track and i can see him being right on top in the future.
I really REALLY wish i could have stepped out in Kevins M3, but it was not to be. Plagued with problems all weekend i only took the car out once for parade laps :( I really wanted to see if i could keep up with the Scion in his car. Maybe next year..... or if anyone wants to hand me the keys to their car let me know ;)

Ross you are too kind. I appreciate the advice, especially about staying in it around big bend. Yeah Im proud of my car's setup, but at Shenandoah it could use a little more rear spring as the car is setup for transitions, and Shenandoah is turnaround-straight-turnaround-straight-turnaround. I think you noticed that with all the front tire howling! ;)
It would have been cool if you were in Kevin's car, maybe the results may have been different. :dunno
BTW jbrannon7 - I dont have any videos. :( I guess I need to get with the program and start getting some A/V gear in my car.

BIMMER3 10-02-2007, 06:02 PM Now what would our times've been if we were running on nicely worn R888s?
I've found in the past that running my car on track tires they were good for about 5 seconds a lap compared to not-so-good summer tires. I'd say on Shenandoah, RA1s or R888s compared to the tires we were running, maybe 2-4 seconds. What do you all think?
Too bad we can't go out at a normal DE and run those kinds of times without having to contend with traffic. :nono
When are we all going karting? I'm down to less than 195! :alright
LaunchBackwards 10-02-2007, 06:09 PM We should have our own Time Attack.
Biggins 10-02-2007, 06:15 PM We should have our own Time Attack.
Isn't that called autocross? :rolleyes
I have to admit that this is a pretty cool event, and I'd definitely be more interested if there were more than a few each year. Yes I know SCCA and NASA have their versions, but the Redline events seem to draw more people and spectators.

Joe
BIMMER3 10-03-2007, 09:27 AM That's funny, getting strapped in for my last run, I saw the camera and thought, okay, look cool. :cool Too bad they reversed the video of David's car so it is hard to read RRT.
The Redline TV episodes last night lead me to believe that there might be some coverage of this event. At least, last week I heard that was the plan.
spazegun2213 10-03-2007, 09:44 AM yes, redline TV was there last weekend and the event should have some good air time. When it will air i have no idea.

Great show guys! Awsome stuff from David with the NA motor and Scott stepping up from STU autox. Next year should be a great show down.
Brian, already gave you you're slap on the back for the win; it was up to Neil and Woody for the slap in the head if you lost this one.

Shady3One3 10-03-2007, 05:19 PM so whats faster...the ptuning scion, or your 944?
I watched a couple episodes of Redline on Speed last night. I wonder if this event will make it on one night.
Joe
depending on how fast the post production team is, the editing will be done in a week or several weeks. it should air within this month.
spazegun2213 10-04-2007, 08:21 AM so whats faster...the ptuning scion, or your 944?
I have no idea. I've not taken my new 944 on SC, nor do i think i ever will. I'll have to wait to take the Tc out on main to get a good feel for how fast the car is.
Although given the stats I'd say I'm leaning towards the Tc. It has another 90hp on my 944 and while the tires are not DOT slicks, they are 255's and not 225's.
we'll see in time though
getfast 10-04-2007, 10:57 AM Your 944 has much better weight balance and is RWD. It also must be... what... 400+ pounds lighter? Therefore, it's faster. :D
Jon

Jon
this is very true, but and really, the scion would probably only be 200-300lbs more than my 2950lbs fatty. However, at a certain point in time power makes up for the weight, and the balance.
getfast 10-04-2007, 12:02 PM Agreed, if you can make it turn... and put the power down for that matter.
If they figured out a way to make a tC not understeer - and actually rotate through a corner like a 944 would - then they win :D
Jon
JamesM3M5 10-04-2007, 12:07 PM On my final lap of the last run I finally beat that Scion's time. Whoop-dee-doo!! In my defense, I still have a full stock car with AC and interior, and I had never driven the Shenandoah course before. I missed 3rd place in RWD Mod by 0.1 seconds!! ARGH!! 1:41.9 vs 1:41.8. I know I could have done better still, but I only got to follow David Ortiz and Brian Hair in practice for 1.5 laps before they pitted. I picked up quite a bit from watching them on Sunday afternoon's practice.

this is true. I think the next outing we'll add a little more toe out in the rear and see how she does. They are not known to be the best handling cars, but we are looking to change some of that.
James, i never got to run with you, but you and that cayman were really fast for sure. I'm just glad i could keep up with you all on the cars first outing.

congrats Tom @ Petit.......omg the spin on the very last lap. :(
but still, podium ftw!!
Awesome picture, hahahaha. I think I saw that same face at some point in Saw 3.
:( for last lap too. Damnit. I got a false neutral inbetween 3rd and 2nd braking for 7 and hit the stick down again and got 1st which promptly started a nice drift-turned-to-spin. 3rd is still nice and had we not been hit 3 times by LMP cars to cause flats we probably would have been the ones chasing the leader at the end instead of defending 2nd.
