I don't know if this has been covered before but I have been reading this forum about detailing engines using the product CD-2 Engine Detailer. It seems there is alot of positive comments about this product. Well a few years ago I talked to some local car detailers and also car dealer prep guys on what they use to detail their engine compartments and they all told me they use Silicone Spray. So for awhile I have been using silicone spray with excellent results. Yesterday, I was at my local Murray's auto parts store and found some CD-2 Engine Detailer and picked up a can. This morning I tried the CD-2 Engine Detailer and found it to give me about the same results as the silicone spray. The only difference is the CD-2 is $9.99 a can and the silicone spray is 1.49 a can. Has anyone here tried these products with the same results. One other note...after using both products I noticed they both have the same smell....

The CD2 is supposed to "harden" up and create a protective gloss to your engine.. In my exp, it def makes it shiny as hell, but if it is not cured it will attract dust that will stick to it... But I prefer the CD2 because it is not as much of a mess to work with when working on the engine bay.
Have you tried working on an engine after a silicone treatment. Real nasty stuff. Use what you like, because what you may be comfortable with may be totally diff than the next guy.
I only use the CD2 2 times a year, so I don't really notice the cost.... I have been experimenting with Mothers Back to Black on my plastic bits and I have been satisfied with it.

Whatever I use, I would certainly stay away from something that is sticky and holds on to dust like silicone spray. I've never had a problem with CD-2 attracting dust.
To avoid the dust, I'd probably use something that was water based. But then that tends to wash off more easily than CD-2.

How exactly do you clean your engine? Just a pressure wash blast under the hood? What about electrical components or intake filters?

A brief search will rundown the method to detail an engine. It's been talked about recently.
Before and after pics of CD-2 are included toward the bottom of the photos here:

That CD-2 stuff works well on that engine bay. I have seen a few products at the dealership that have the same results. Where did you purchase the CD-2?

I had my sister purchase it directly from Midway Auto Supply in Dallas. You can get it from them online, but they want about as much for shipping as they do for the product itself.

I do wish Autogeek would start to carry it. Or any other detailing place for that matter that would charge a more reasonable shipping rate.
