dont know much about e38 so im asking for a friend, he has a shimmy from 45 to 55 mph, hes changed the wheels and still the same, are e38's like the older bmw's where its usually the upper control arms?, im going to try to help him next week so wanted yo find out something about the cars, thanks

oembimmerparts has a kit of parts (http://www.oembimmerparts.com/catalog/item/4474203/5016839.htm) targeted to kill the shimmy.

ive got the exact same thing under heavy braking,the dealer says its the rotors

bushings are another cause. search for SHIMMY @ www.e38.org

If you're only feeling the shimmy under braking (not accelerating or cruising), then it's most likely a warped rotor (or two). Usually.

Same thing for an E32?
I got my 18" wheels balanced & still have a bloody slight shimmy at 45 mph.
