I have a 2001 BMW x5 3.0 standard, 60,000miles
The fuel gauge is acting up.
After some Google searching I found this.
Incorrect Fuel Gauge Reading:
Model:
BMW E53 (X5) vehicles produced before August 17 th 2000.
Complaint:
After the tank has been filled the fuel gauge not read “full”.......
......These errors are caused by a non-conducting deposit being formed on the conductor surface of the fuel level sensor...
(Then something about reseting a memory)
(Can't post link, GOOGLE: BMW Sensors Problems and Faults)
If this is the problem,
I would like to take a shot at cleaning up the "non-conducting deposit" (corrosion?) on the contacts of the sending unit before resorting to the repair shop.
Can somebody explain how to get to this thing?
I popped off the right side of the cargo bay + a cushion between the seat and door, I can only see a small part of the tank. (no connections visible)
(I think this is what you call barking up the wrong tree)
I am open to all suggestions or help anybody is willing to give.
