I noticed this weekend at the track that some guys are still using their 3" shoulder strap harnesses with their HANS device. Is it necessary to go to the 2" or is the 3" just fine?

View Full Version : 3" shoulder harness and HANS device kolo1racer 09-27-2007, 11:16 PM I noticed this weekend at the track that some guys are still using their 3" shoulder strap harnesses with their HANS device. Is it necessary to go to the 2" or is the 3" just fine? K JClark 09-27-2007, 11:59 PM The HMS guys told me the 3" belt actually distributes force more evenly on the HANS and therefore is a better choice. :dunno Kept me from having to buy new harnesses. Steve J. 09-28-2007, 12:10 AM Depends on the person (size, height, comfort, etc), size of hans (and version), configuration of belts (basically if they are installed properly). Most importantly, have the belts installed properly. I like the feeling of the Schroth Hybrid II-hans. Greg S 09-28-2007, 12:21 AM 3" is fine if they're installed properly. vmwerks 09-28-2007, 08:09 AM I use clamps around my roll bar to keep the harness's the proper distance apart. I have no issues with the 3" width. They will "ride up" a bit to the inside which is how I check to make sure they are on correctly. VahramHS 09-28-2007, 11:21 AM The HANS was actually designed to work with a 3 inch belt, this info came straight from HANS. But a 2 inch belt works very well also with the HANS device. I have a schroth Hybrid II belt and it works great with no issues with the HANS device. I personally like the comfort of the 2 inch belt over the 3 inch belt but it really comes down to personal preference. |
