Hello all, its been a while since i last posted..

Here's whats going on.. When I accelerate in my car it pulls to the left sharply. I don't belive it's the alignment because i have recently had that done.

I put it up on a lift and had a look-see at the under side and noticed this:http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/9650/img2220qm3.th.jpg (http://img252.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2220qm3.jpg) http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/9335/img2221qw0.th.jpg (http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2221qw0.jpg)http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/649/img2214aq4.th.jpg (http://img441.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2214aq4.jpg) Thats the drivers side rear wheel, as you can see that bolt has chewed out quite a bit of metal there.. I belive this is the culprit. But what is the name of this peice? That area runs all the way to the other wheel kinda lika an "H" heres the other side..http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/9373/img2217hg6.th.jpg (http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2217hg6.jpg) So Im guessing I have to replace that part.. ( or posibly welding a large washer larger than the hole to hold that bolt in place?) So has this happened to anyone else?.. does welding seem like a good idea? To get this part off it looks like I'll have to drop the exhaust, Differential...etc.. Any input at all will be greatly appreciated!..

Hi all,

So it turns out that the piece pictured is my Rear Axle Carrier.. p/n 033-31-1-097-248. And BMW lists this part at 937.12$. Ouch.

Ive talked it over with a few people and some say I could possibly weld a large washer over the space of that hole.....

Now my problem with that would be, I dont know how strong that would be and i belive the weld would have to be perfect because if I'm correct this part has something to do with my alignment.

Service technician at BMW also said that it would be at least 1000$ in labor alone. The part runs from the left rear tire to the right rear tire, kinda like an "H" and to remove I would have to drop the Differential, exhaust etc.. Diagram here.

So my best bet I belive is to try and find this part salvaged... but even then who besides the dealership could do this kind of job... Anyone have any suggestions on my next course of action???

I also have a video of the part for more detail just cant figure out how to up load it.

Oh snap!!!

THis sucks!!!
:(

THere has to be an indy shop that could do it for less...
I'm not sure a salvaged part would be the best.. it may be damaged too... :az
Have you checked any of the Part-out threads?
Maybe they can give you a good price.
Hope it works out for you... keep us posted.
