Well I guess my horn is broken, because when I honk it lets people know there might be a small kia or honda they are about to hit. Anyways its really high-pitched and I need a new one. I wanted to get something louder if possible, but still have somewhat the same tone of stock cars. Looking to spend under $40-$50.

I'm also down just for a OEM replacement (its at the point to where I don't want to honk it sounds so bad). So I wanted to know if anybody had used or seen the horns they sell in Autozone, or the parts stores, do you think they would work fine, or am I better off finding an OEM one?

If you go to www.bavauto.com and type "horn" into the search box...you can work your way to the item below...you can actually listen to the sound between the original BMW horn and this 2-tone horn:

Thanks for the link. I think I might try that one for $50, I hope its not too high-pitched of a noise though.

Anybody know where to get an OEM one though??

If you use any of the 3 online parts databases, you can look up the BMW part nbr, then take that info to your local BMW dealer...or input that BMW part nbr at any of the LONG list of online parts vendors ( find the list at the top right column at www.e38.org).

[Feel free to save all of the links provided in this post to your favorites...all or any of them will be handy for future references.]

For example, below is a DIRECT link to the "low pitch" and "high pitch" horns for the e38 from Maximillian's BMW online parts database: http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=GJ83&mospid=47531&btnr=61_0112&hg=61&fg=40&hl=4

Again, you can select & copy the BMW part nbr at the link given above, then paste that BMW part nbr in the "search by part nbr" at any of the online vendors listed at E38.org.

Here are the other 2 online part databases:
