Ok when this car was new it went for 47,500 and it has a whimpy meep meep meep alarm horn when unlocked is this for real. Can this be changed? My buddies say wow sweet ride when they see the car but I unlock it and they here the meep meep meep and laugh like crazy. Is there any way to make this sound more manly?

Yeah.

Lift off the rear seat cushion.

On the driver's side there is a box that says "BMW REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY"

You have to unscrew the two screws that hold the black box to a black chassis.

DO NOT UNPLUG ANYTHING OR TAKE IT APART!!!

Flip it over, you will see a removable "door". There you will see tiny switches. There is a diagram on the box of what you need to change. It will be obvious when you are in there.

This is all covered in the Keyless manual BTW.

Don't get curious and take the box apart like I did.

Below are the instructions on how to turn off the audible "meep, meep"...you'll still be able to hear the doors lock/unlock...you just loose the Roadrunner sound. :D

If you need more info about the system...click this link & scroll down past the pics of the unit under the back seat: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/739005/3

Instead of turning it off can't you make it chirp instead, there was a thread that said so somewhere......

The units installed in these older e34 cars aren't that sophisticated. To change the sound would mean that the horn/siren would need to be changed.

The unit itself has no way to "change" the sound of the alert or warning siren. In fact, the alarm sound that is emitted is the same as the "meep" of the audible alert...just sustained longer "meeeeeeep, meeeeeeep, meeeeeeep, meeeeeeep" etc. :D

If you look at post #5...you can see that the option is to either turn it on or off. There is no option to choose a different sound on the control unit.

Hahaha, that is funny.. never really thought of this before. Would be cool to get a custom made horn but would that be illegal you think?

I dont think itd be illegal. It would depend upon state and city law though.
