I bought a diff on ebay, but it's a "non-locking" instead of "limited slip" and I can't find a number starting with an S. Did I get the wrong thing? What's the difference?

Did I get the wrong thing? What's the difference? lowell 09-26-2007, 11:41 PM S indicates that it's a limited slip. Not having an S means it's open. I have a 3.46 limited slip sitting in my garage right now that I could stand to sell. TheGoldenOne 09-27-2007, 08:14 AM I also I have an open 3.23 as another option and maybe a 3.91lsd, havent decided if i want to part with it grawk 09-27-2007, 08:16 AM I'm happy enough with the 3.91 I bought, Im' just wondering what the difference is between locking, non-locking, and limited slip. I would have preferred a limited slip, but I can live with this, assuming it will work with my 535 ghostryder35 09-27-2007, 09:18 AM it means you wont have limited slip so when you accelerate hard the wheels with just spin. Sucks in the winter big time. ghostryder35 09-27-2007, 09:22 AM http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential3.htm explains all three :) CAPEBOY 09-27-2007, 11:08 AM I have a 3.46 limited slip sitting in my garage right now that I could stand to sell. Lowell, Would you be interested in selling or trading for a 3.64 LSD? grawk 09-27-2007, 12:09 PM How much for the 3.64lsd? :) I could pick it up. Then I'd need to find something to do with my open diff... lowell 09-27-2007, 01:22 PM Lowell, Would you be interested in selling or trading for a 3.64 LSD? Thanks, but I already have a 3.64. The idea was to go to a 3.46 when I finally build my turbo motor. Seeing as how that project keeps on getting delayed, it could be years, I could stand to lose the 3.46 for the time being. My garage is a mess. I think the 3.91 is too short for a 535/5. I started out with a 3.91 on my converted 535 (stock gearing). It was faster, but first was worthless. Going to the 3.64 made the car much more driveable, and with some of the other light mods that the car has, it does well for what it is off the line. grawk 09-27-2007, 05:16 PM I also I have an open 3.23 as another option and maybe a 3.91lsd, havent decided if i want to part with it What would you want for the 3.91? TheGoldenOne 09-28-2007, 04:12 AM What would you want for the 3.91? not quite sure at this point in time, prolly something around the 300 range CAPEBOY 09-28-2007, 07:52 AM How much for the 3.64lsd? :) I could pick it up.
