I recently had to have a Vanos unit replaced on my 2000 M5 (@ 50k miles), but don't want to pay the stealer to do this again. The procedure is simple enough, but required some specilized tools (readily available, but not cheap) and the ability to set the Vanos to the service position while the engine is running. I bought a setup off eBay which came with cables and cracked Carsoft software. The software crashes everytime I run the diagnostic, so I can't even determine if a functioning Carsoft would do what I want. Furthermore, I haven't been able to get any of their retailers to return emails.

Can someone recommend software that doesn't cost $ thousands that will enable me to set the Vanos to the service position on a S62?
