Did a search, didnt find much info on these in the forums. Has anyone ever used them on a BMW aside from a 2002? Im thinking this will be my 1st upgrade to the car so that it will run a bit smoother, and with less problems.

i was having problems with my points for several months and cj told me to go with one of them. i bought the xr3000 and very pleased with the performance of it. havent had an ignition problem since. except for the sport steering wheel i put on my e21 this is the best upgrade i have made.

I used the xr700 on a 2002 and my old 323i with great results! On my 323i the original ignition had gone out so it was cheaper to just upgrade it.

I went with the XR3000. Havnt had a lick of problems since the install. Idle ran smoother, MPG saw a slight increase, and you never have to adjust again.

btw I did a search and found about 15 threads, in reality it doesnt matter if its an 02 or E21, its the same exact application.

How much does this unit cost? Is this the one with the optical trigger? I think this is what a friend of mine was using and the optical wheel was really cheesy and hard to keep in place. It seems like this unit has very little usefulness when you already have the option of a $79 pertronics or the be-all and end-all of ignition upgrades, edis.

IMO the Crane unit is superior in construction to the Petronix. I had 2 Petronix units that failed to work in my car because the trigger would interfere with the chopper wheel. I have heard many of the same stories how the petronics units failed and the build quality was very poor. Most people who have had both favor the Crane.

The XR3000 at the time of purchase was $125.
