View Full Version : You know you're from Colorado if...
Rockyrat 09-24-2007, 09:41 PM I got this e-mail today and figured this is the place it will be appreciated most, enjoy...
You're from Colorado if.....
You'll eat ice cream in the winter.
When the weather report says it's going to be 65 degrees, you shave
your
legs and wear a skirt.
It snows 5 inches and you don't expect school to be cancelled.
You'll wear flip flops every day of the year, regardless of
temperature.
You have no accent at all, but can hear other people's. And then you
make
fun of them.
'Humid' is over 25%.
Your sense of direction is: Toward the mountains and Away from the
mountains.
You say 'the interstate' and everybody knows which one.
You think that May is a totally normal month for a blizzard.
You grew up planning your Halloween costumes around your coat.
You know what the Continental Divide is.
You don't think Coors beer is that big a deal.
You went to Casa Bonita as a kid.
You've gone off-roading in a vehicle that was never intended for such
activities.
You always know the elevation of where you are.
You wake up to a beautiful, 80 degree day and you wonder if it's going
to snow tomorrow.
You don't care that some company renamed it, the Broncos still play at
Mile
High.
Every movie theater has military and student discounts.
Everybody wears jeans to church.
You actually know that South Park is a real place not just a show on
TV.
You know what a 'trust fund hippy' is, and you know its natural habitat
is
Boulder.
You know you're talking to a fellow Coloradan when they call it
Elitches, not Six Flags.
A bear on your front porch doesn't bother you.
Your two favorite teams are the Broncos and whoever is beating the crap
out
of the Raiders.
You've been to the original Chipotle near the DU campus on Evans.
When people out East tell you they have mountains in their state too,
you
just laugh.
You go anywhere else on the planet and the air feels 'sticky' and you
notice
the sky is no longer blue.
parkpy 09-25-2007, 12:23 PM I've never been to the original Chipotle:(
Theodore 09-25-2007, 12:44 PM I've never been to the original Chipotle:(
I have. :D
Smoody 09-25-2007, 05:25 PM Some others:
Timberline is a place you have been.
You have left the house wearing shorts and a parka.
You think that anything less than 5000 feet in elevation is the lowlands.
You start to get depressed if rains for more than 2 days in a row.
You consider anything less than 6 inches of snow to be a "dusting".
You know what upslope flow is.
You switch from "Heat" to "A/C" in one day
You know what the "Peoples Republic of Boulder (http://www.city-data.com/city/Boulder-Colorado.html)" means.
The bike on your car is worth more than your car.
You think your major food groups are granola bars, pizza and Fat Tire beer.
You can never figure out why your out-of-town guests faint from altitude sickness on a picnic to the mountains.
When you visit friends at sea level, you can drink a case of beer and not get a buzz.
April showers bring May blizzards.
You know what a "fourteener" is.
SPF 90 is not out of the question.
People from out of state breathe 5 times as often as you do.
Thunder has set off your car alarm.
A sudden loss of cabin pressure is not a big deal.
Where we're going, we don't need roads!!
You know where Buffalo Bill's grave is.
Driving directions usually include 'Go over _________ Pass.'
You've gone snow skiing in July and you've played golf in January and they were in the same year!
You get a certain satisfaction knowing that California and Texas are both downstream.
fsmtnbiker 09-25-2007, 07:25 PM You get a certain satisfaction knowing that California and Texas are both downstream.
Sooooooo true. :)
DucHuynh007 09-25-2007, 08:04 PM You know what a 'trust fund hippy' is, and you know its natural habitat
is Boulder.
I prefer to call them Trust-tafarians :)
Dark Helmet 09-25-2007, 09:17 PM roffle... I'm down on 90% of that... visiting CO a couple times a year is good for something...
M62pwrdE38 09-25-2007, 11:47 PM Its not Six Flags anymore anyways ;)
TheVic 09-26-2007, 12:19 AM hehehe. i loved it cause they're true.....except.....what the hell is the "Peoples Republic of Boulder"?! otherwise...yeah, all true
haha flip flops one is so true. i hate CU :(
Theodore 09-26-2007, 07:56 AM There needs to be a "thinks they are better than everyone since they have mountains" option too. :stickoutt
I don't know how many people from Denver I've met that have never climbed or done anything physical in the mountains. My favorite is when I climb a 14er and have people laugh at me for being from KS. Then I smoke them on the way up and laugh at them on the way down. :D

Some folks feel that Boulder area has a political bent that differs substaintially from the rest of the Colorado. They also feel that this has led to the Boulder area being run almost like a separate entity.
I am not sure that I buy into that completely. I have been to Boulder frequently and think it is a nice place.

I work in Boulder, and have lived there...
It does have a radically different political standard, and they are also always right about that view. Try disagreeing with a Boulder lib sometime... it won't be a polite conrontation.
Of course this is a generalization, but it is true more often than it is not.
However, if you don't mention politics, and don't mind the scent of hippies and such, it is a very nice place, with amazing access to the mountains, and can be a fun place to visit.
Theodore 09-26-2007, 01:12 PM ... and the drive out of Boulder Canyon is FUN, not to mention Flagstaff mountain.

Very true, although I have had an "I'm a dumb-ass" experience on a hair pin turn on that drive down...
^ LOL would that be the one involving a dash covered in slurpee (or some other drink :confused)
fitler 09-27-2007, 06:53 PM you know what a gaper is.
i have once honestly been asked where they keep the moguls during to summer. and at what elevation do deer turn into elk.
if you can actually drive in the snow without causing and traffic jam.
if you know to down shift on a long decent instead of just riding the shit out of your breaks.
i may just be me having grown up in breck but i don't ever have to pop my ears when i change elevations like on an airplaine. they just do it automatically. might just be me though.
mitchsn 09-28-2007, 11:19 AM Im from CA and lived close to Santa Cruz, SF and Berkley....and none of that compares to the hippies of Boulder. They call CA the Left Coast for a reason, but Boulder is so far Left, they should be past Hawaii.
PS Just did the Trail Ridge drive through the Rocky Mountain National Park and while very scenic and nice, it didn't really showcase the fall colors that I was hoping for. For that I think I have to drive up to Vail (did that last year and its AMAZING).
By far the best part of the drive was the long stretch out of Winter Park. Theres a long section of passing lanes just outside the city heading out to I70
Bimmerbasher 09-28-2007, 11:31 AM ^ LOL would that be the one involving a dash covered in slurpee (or some other drink :confused)
:shifty:shiftyWho is this that knows such details of my incident:shifty:shifty
Seth?
And yes, although it was a Taco Bell Extra-Large code-red mountain dew...
Sugary smelling heat for the next year and a half until I finally killed that car:(
^ :lol yeah dude its me. glad i wasnt there for that one. :D
Bimmerbasher 09-29-2007, 02:17 PM ^ :lol yeah dude its me. glad i wasnt there for that one. :D
It's hillarious now, but it is arguably the dumbest thing I have ever done in my entire life!
Wish I hadn't been there for it!
raveadelic 10-03-2007, 01:22 PM i would agree with all of those things, colorado is a crazy place to live.:buttrock
Cloudbase 10-04-2007, 01:06 AM you know what a gaper is.
Awesome. I live to school gapers on my road/mountain bikes!
I'm not getting into the Boulder politico convo. The hippie / libs get the fame, but just like the rest of America there is a moderate majority where common sense prevails. Here are a few Boulder specific ones:
You get passed riding up flagstaff by a 65 year old woman and you race semi-pro
Construction never stops, it just moves around
You can evacuate Whole Foods by saying there's a Subuaru in the parking lot with it's lights on
Bums ask for money with Starbucks in hand, and then turn down change
It's possible to get 3 red light and 2 speed camera tickets in the same mile
There are "No Hang Gliding" signs in city park
A house built in 1952 that spent the last 20 years as a mini dorm room with original floors, kitchen, and roof sells for $800,000.
And lastly, while driving your cherished BMW, college girls with big glasses and small dogs, wearing clothes off the set of Who's the Boss in their Dad's Lincoln Navigator are your worst fear!
Smoody 10-04-2007, 09:58 AM You can evacuate Whole Foods by saying there's a Subuaru in the parking lot with it's lights on
This is so true. The parking lots at Whole Foods and Wild Oats look like used car lots for a Subaru dealership.
It seems like every household here has either a Subaru or an Audi in the driveway. There are also more BMW XIs here than Is.
mitchsn 10-04-2007, 02:15 PM "Construction never stops, it just moves around"
SOOOOO true. Freakin Arapaho + Diagonal
