This morning when I started my car to go to work, the starter engaged harshly but the engine would not turn and it felt as if the engine was seized up. I was able to roll my car a bit and pop the clutch. It started after that, but with a fair amount of sweet smelling smoke. It felt to me like it was hydro locked

Is it possible to have a blown head gasket letting coolant into the cylinders, but at the same time have good compression on all cylinders? (145-147-150-143)

The car drives fine with plenty of power and the steam went away after it warmed up. Could the head gasket only be leaking when the motor cools down then seal back up as the motor warms?

Thanks

See if it happens again..but yea, sounds like coolant is leaking in there from your head. What does the raidiator fluid look like? Any crap bubbles in there while the car is running?

Pull the dipstick to and see if you are getting water in the oil

Theres definitely no water in the oil, it's just leaking water into one of the cylinders. I actually had to pull the spark plugs this morning to get her started. It produced quite a bit of steam, but once it warmed up it smoothed out and ran fine.

I ordered a new gasket kit last night, so as long as it doesn't blow up before this weekend i should be fine.

Nothing like an unplanned weekend project. Good luck, hope it's just a failed gasket.
