Hi everyone,

A new rally event is now available for the early summer of 2008. It is called the Rocky Mountain Open Run and is put on by Street Safari. This is a group that puts on "banger" (beat up junk car) rallies around the world. They have one on the east coast and one in the Rockies. I go on the east coast one and it is a real ball.

I was able to convince the organizers that they needed to use a similar format for those of us that have nice cars and would like to go on a rally. You can check it out at rockymountainrun.com
NOTE: this site has both the Rocky Mountain Run (RMR) and Rocky Mountain Open Run (RMOR). If you are a bit nuts and like a challenge then look at the RMR as you need a junker to go on this, however if you would like to do a rally in your nice car check out the RMOR. I have signed up and my wife and I will be driving our 2000 Z3 M Coupe.

The rally organizers set the event up so when you leave in the morning there are challenges that are handed to you as you leave the parking lot. Points are awarded for the completion of these challenges. None of the challenges are racing or performance driving events, they involve more mental challenges that are set up along the route interacting with locals sometimes and observing the surroundings throughout the route other times. The event pays $1,500 for first place so it can be quite rewarding for the winner.

I have never competed to win an event, just doing the event and enjoying the companionship and travel has been enough reward. I am thinking next year we may go for it though!.

The event starts in Cheyenne, Wy and travels through the Rockies south to the four corners and to the Grand Canyon ending in Las Vegas , NV.

It should be a real ball. Something a bit different and fun.

Hope to see you there. IF you have questions you can e-mail me at ultimagtr@gmail.com (ultimagtr@gmail.com)

Thanks

Ed

Hi Everyone,

I posted the informaiton about the Rocky Mountain Open Run because I thought this was a forum for enthusiasts that wanted to drive their cars, not park them in the garage and look at them!

It seems to me where I posted this, under the heading of "events" is the proper place for such a posting! Is this not an event?

As far as promoting a way of making money. Someone has to organize these events that we enjoy. It is not wrong for them to make their living this way any more that it is for the rest of us to make a living doing what we do.

I address this publically because Mr. Dark Helmet has questioned my integrity publically and insulted me. I am not affiliated with the organizers, I do not get a dime from them, I have to pay my entry fee just like everyone else and I posted this because I thought others would like to know about the event and possibly join in.

MR. DARK HELMET:

I will e-mail you regarding your nasty comments in a public forum.
Thus I will show the courtesy to you and others in the forum that you refused to extend to me by handling this privately!

Well i love me car but dont drive it much. It has been sitting in the garage pretty much of the late portion of the summer, except i will get it out a few hours here and there. So are you saying cause my car is sitting in the garage most of the time i am not a enthusiast? I would strongly disagree with you as many others will as well. I know several people that keep their car in the garage all the time and barely drive it. I guess we like to keep our cars looking nice.
Also I agree with DH as well. i thought it was kind of fishy as well. and i dont consider his comments to be nasty or anything like that. He is a long time member and is liked by many.

I am not trying to indicate anyone is or is not an enthousiast based upon the use of their car. No offence intended to you or anyone else that does not drive their car often.

I would like to ask you for the same clarification that I asked Mr. Dark Helmet. What is wrong with the post? Why does it seem fishey to you.

I do not understand why this post is causing so much of a problem and would like to understand to avoid such problems in the future.

Why is this post different than others that I have seen. I signed up for a rally in Wisconsin that I found on this forum and they charge for the event, why is that different than this?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

As far as Mr. Dark Helmet being a long time and respected member of the forum. I am a new member and it seems to me that it should be the responsibility of members like Mr. Dark Helmet to help new members by welcoming them to the forum not criticizing in cryptic messages with further cryptic messages and criticism when clarification is requested.

Thus when Mr. Dark Helmet posted:

“Only Posts ever” as a response to how my post looked like spam
and when I asked for further clarification I got:

“when someone makes their first post and it is promoting/selling something, it looks fishy to mee... mrnvgtr knows how to grease the wheels...”

This added questions and insinuates that I am somehow “greasing the wheels”. I am not sure what that means but it sounds insulting to me in that it is insinuates that somehow I am doing something wrong or underhanded.

I ask again what is fishy about this post? Why is it being my first post an issue? What is wrong with me posting information about an event that I think others would want to know about and participate in?

If I am somehow violating the spirit and intent of the forum, then just tell me what and how so I can avoid this in the future and then remove the post if it is not acceptable. To insinuate that I am being underhanded is insulting!

Ultimagtr - I think you're genuine. The only thing that was fishy about your post was that it was your first post ever. You also have interesting (pretty good) sentence structure/grammar which actually reads funny on a forum where most people can't spell anything right.

Anyway, I think you've got the message out. I would just let this one rest. People will let you know via email if they're interested. Go check out the M Coupe forum and enjoy it. Its much less critical over there. Just be sure to introduce yourself and post up pics of your car. By the way, where is Clinton?

Thank you for your explination.

I am not sure how this being my first post would make any difference but I am willing to accept the answer as I will never have another first post so this problem should go away.

I will also accept your advice and drop the issue.

Thank you, your help is appreciated.

Clinton, Illinois is about 3 hours south of chicago on route 51. About 30 miles south of Bloomington, IL.

i am with mrnvgtr. Usually people will have several post introducing them selves, showing pictures of their cars and so on. When ever i seen a post like your first one i just ignore it and think of it like spam. I get so many email's everyday just like this and i get sick of seeing them. Anyway good luck and sit back and enjoy this nice friendly community that we have here.

I know where Clinton, IA is but what Clinton are u talkign about

Aparently there are too many Clinton's in the US. I am in Clinton, Illinois.

Some would argue that there are too many Clintons in politics, but that could start another whole ugly discussion.

Just to clarify, that is meant as a joke, no insult meant to anyone.
