Is there anything in break dust that would be harmful to a youngster? My son is 6 and wants to help wash my car all the time. I thought cleaning the rims would be pretty safe, but then I started thinking about what might be in the dust...
Obviously I'd need to steer clear of the wheel cleaning products for the most part, but I thought with just SimpleGreen or something it would be ok.
First off..its BRAKE dust. Sorry had to get that out.
I don't see how it could hurt the little guy. Obviously asbestos isn't used anymore, just be cautious with the products he uses. I know some tire gels and stuff smell sweet but are extremely toxic.

As soon as I logged in to check the responses and saw the subject line, I realized I spelled it wrong. How embarrassing.

well brake dust is only extremely dangerous when your exposed to it for a long period of time. Im a bmw tech so i am exposed to brake dust everytime i do a brake job. Its dangerous if its airborne, but if its not then you dont have to worry if u get it on your fingers or not. And obviously dont ingest it. but, if you wet the wheel(inside of the wheel) before you clean it(which is probly the case because your cleaning it) it will limit the brake dust from becoming airborne. But all in all you and your kid will be fine
