View Full Version : Updated iDrive Display
tachyonz 09-22-2007, 04:45 PM I took my 335i in the other day to get a faulty A/C controller unit looked at. They concluded I needed a new one, so they ordered and installed it the next day. Upon receiving my car back, I was notified that my system software had been updated. They had to reprogram the entire car. I was told the iDrive would look a little different but still operate the same. The iDrive display now has a silver colored menu, with a silver i button in the middle. Instead of the previous menu which had slight coloring for each of the options, blue for comm, green for nav, etc. Inside the navigation has more shades now. Like the highways and major roads are bright and the lesser side roads are darker. Makes it easier to follow then my previous version which was not shaded and all the roads were just as bright as the other. The overall brightness of the iDrive is less than the previous version. Other than that I haven't noticed much difference.
My car was a 12/06 build. I am curious to know what iDrive looks like for people who are now receiving their cars. Does anybody's iDrive look like this? Does anyone know any of the other differences with the updated software?
thekurgan 09-22-2007, 07:44 PM If you have an iPod, maybe you could let us know if the 6FL bug is still present? :-) I had read on another forum that version 27 may be released, sounds like maybe you got that upgrade while the car was being repaired.
tomegun 09-22-2007, 08:17 PM I'm waiting on the new version as well. I have the iPod issue and was told nothing could be done until the software was released. However, they are supposed to be doing something for me for my trouble.

tachyonz 09-23-2007, 03:14 AM I do not have the iPod adapter in my car. It was not an option when I ordered in 11/06. I may get it installed post...but I am happy with the auxiliary port under the arm rest for my needs. I find it faster to browse music from the iPod rather than any iDrive menu they could provide.

New as in from now on or new as in when? I took delivery in July and my car doesn't have the new software. I'm saying this with the understanding that my main iDrive screen will not have multi-colors displayed. Is what the OP said correct as far as color and the newest software?
jmonier 09-23-2007, 07:12 PM March production and later should have the new software. Mine does.
Ty Vil 09-24-2007, 02:32 AM You took delivery in July, but when was your car produced?

The car was produced in June.
Does the new software have the colors on the main iDrive screen (red, blue, etc.) or all the choiced (heating/AC, nav, entertainment, communication) the same color (or close). I have different colors. Is there somewhere I can go and check the version of software?
BillSD 09-25-2007, 03:19 PM My my is a March build. Your nav sounds like mine. My 6FL also works fine. What is the "bug" with that?
gfunk 09-25-2007, 08:40 PM I just got my car back from service today for a computer issue and my iDrive has changed as well. I like the updated look, it just seems that the over look and aesthetics have changed, but the features seem to have stayed the same.
tomegun 09-25-2007, 09:24 PM Can someone tell me what the newest version is and where I can look to see what version I have?
