I just got a quote for changing all the worn out parts at the dealer (1/5 of the initial purchase price). What caught my eye was that they require 115 working hours to change the upper oilpan gasket and would like to charge me $350 for the labor on that part. Has anyone had any experience in changing that gasket and could verify wheter or not it really takes that much time? Do you have to pull the engine out or something?

On the V12 the transmission has to be separated from the engine to reach the rearmost upper pan bolts:(
I was hoping IŽll get a break from Jaguar-type engineering when getting the 8 but there it is...

Yea even Alldata says that the transmission has to be removed and the engine has to be lifted to get to the oil pan so that book time is probably right even though an experienced tech could probably do it in a day.

I just had this done on my car 1992 850 i @ the BMW dealer in New York City the estimate was Parts and Labor w/out tax $2,750
TIME/LABOR = 10.5 hours the newer models are easier they have to take the "heart and lungs" out to get to this and it is a big job and worth it...
labor in nyc $137.81/hr
