Looking for a good shop for some A/C work in Raleigh. I got an estimate from a place near work, but he didnt sound very sure about the repair. basically it was making a honking noise and then the hard line from the firewall tot he drier broke. For the hard line and the drier he wants $629.23, but won't know if I need to spend another $1300 till after I fix the line.

can anyone recommend a shop?

$629 sounds like a lot for a hard line and a drier- even with R12 freon....

Try shade tree garage in N. Raleigh (847-3651), or Dave's Automotive (829-9599)- right off Lake Wheeler Rd, just outside of the Beltline, not far from campus. Either of these places should be able to steer you in the right direction. Keep in mind that as a general rule, AC work is NOT cheap.

If you know the hard line + drier need to be replaced, you can do that yourself, then just find a place to vacuum out the system and recharge- you'll probably come out ALOT cheaper.
