In my quest to change from the beep to the chirp when armed/disarmed I opened up the keyless entry control unit.

Now I can't get it back together. :mad

I guess I need a new keyless control unit.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/739005/3

So when I get the new control unit, how do I get it to recognize my keyless fobs? I guess it's the image at the bottom on Q's page...

You out there, Q? :)

Damn, I wish I knew what was up with mine.

I honestly think it's been bypassed or something... :mad

What makes you think you need a new one? Can you just not get the back side back on??

Well, I suck with this stuff.

I took it all apart, down to the circuit board. There are a few pieces in there, and I couldn't get it to work in harmony. The pieces wouldn't stay in their places so I could get it back together.

I was just thinking if I could get another one I just wouldn't take it apart.

That's okay.

I got it back together but still no workie.

Is it because I touched the circuit board? Anything I can do for it?

HAHA no no no, especially becuase after I had the thing in pieces I saw that all I had needed to do was lift up this removable cover. :rofl

I so owned myself.

I could switch it to chirp now if it actually worked. :rofl

Now I'm trying to remove the box and am messing with the harness that goes into the box. I've never done this and don't want to do further damage...

How do I remove the harness from the control unit? It's the green harness. It has a tab, do I press on the tab and it releases? It wasn't releasing.

if you took everything apart...you probably need to reinitialize/reprogram the unit.

You have the link to my cardomain site that has the instructions on how to initialize. Remove the chip from the remote fob and place it into the control unit etc.

You would need to do this anyway if you had found another control unit. The unit must be coded to the chip that is in your remote fob.

AND LEAVE THE GREEN HARNESS ALONE before you screw something up!!! :lol

Most of the connections in our cars are tough to get undone... either because they're old or they're designed not to be disconnected.

Show a pic and I'll tell you how to do it.

What he said. When ever I decide to get one of those remotes that is how I'll do it. The only real hard part would to get the rear seat removed. After that it is all down hill.

In my quest to change from the beep to the chirp when armed/disarmed I opened up the keyless entry control unit.

You can change this? Wow, learn something every day.....

I think..mine chirps. It can "beep"? I just know it sounds like a rich persons car alarm...

Okay, thanks all

I've got my fob apart and am trying to figure out how to slide the chip and socket forward. The chip just slides out of the socket but the socket doesn't seem to be removable.

EDIT: Ohhh I think it just says to remove the chip from the socket. DUH.

Now that I have the chip out of my fob I am trying to figure out where it goes in the control unit.

EDIT: Now I figured out where it goes in the control unit. I put the chip in. Now what?

EDIT2: Found my keyless manual. About to hit the reset button.

Nope, no workie. Going to try to locate another control unit.

What worries me is that that green harness must be plugged into the new unit. I'm not touching it.

Haha problem is I started this without eating...I wasn't thinking straight.

With central locking not having keyless isn't terrible. Off to find a new control unit tomorrow.

Ouch, not eating before working on your car is a recipie for disaster. Next time better eat a power bar to get some energy or at least a bowl of Fruity Pebbles.

Actually not a bad idea.

I don't know of what shop here will touch this, and it would be a good idea to have someone more experienced.

I'll be getting the new (used) control unit off the great big internet.

Are you looking for the box that they sell with the keyless kit for an e34?

Avenue Auto Wrecking has one..

Google them, call them and talk to Wren.. Tell them Brady sent you. I just bought a motor from him sat.. Tell him there is one in the black 92 525 5 spd hit in the rear. :D

If thats not what your looking for, call him anyway.. I know he has a 95 530 that should have what your looking for on it.

Lemme know if there is something I can do or pickup or whatever.

Cool, thanks, I'll give them a try.

Go under your rear seat. It's the box with a green wiring harness on one end and two cables at the other end.

It's under the rear seat on the driver's side.

I'm also curious as what the 530/540 have that the 525i didn't get. They have something for the alarm but I can't remember.

This puppy?

Yea.. that's what I was talking about.. Talk to Wren, they've got one. If he's not there call back later. What ever he tells you, ask him if he can do better.. Then if he won't ship it, pay for it over the phone and I'll pick it up from him and ship it to you. If I do have to pick it up, it wouldn't be until next sat, but I'm pretty sure I could have a friend swing by there for you before then.

If he doesn't know or what ever, lemme know and I'll call him and tell him where it is.

Ah, don't worry about it, I'll call them.

I want it taken out of a car. I'd hate to see how much this costs new.
