Is it possible to replace the moonroof on E34s with a glass unit? I think that would be a huge aesthetical improvement, from both inside and outside the vehicle.

It was a dealer option.

The challenge is finding one.

You find more Alpina's with glass moonroofs than the moonroofs themselves.

Very hard to find!

is there a way to get it custom? how hard can it be to cut a piece of glass that matches the sunroof?

well, i believe it requires a different motor, plus you'd need the brackets and slider to cover the glass from the inside.

If a piece of glass or fibreglass, maybe even heavy duty plastic, could be cut & drilled to match the exact specs of the existing metal...wouldn't the mounting brackets and the rest of the hardware bolt on?

I think I read somewhere where a SAAB moonroof was a direct fit? Of course I don't know which model? I'm sure if one were to Google the two, BMW and SAAB moonroof you'll find something? :)
