• There is a tear in the right rear seat back where my wife improperly installed a child’s car seat  - see pictures
• The rest of the interior is in very good condition – never smoked in

Mechanical
• This M3 has been prepped for track days. Unfortunately, I’ve only had time to do one event at Road America last year – about 250 miles on track with no problems, and one event last week at MAM – again, car ran great, no problems. The suspension is a great compromise between street and track.
o Reliability - The cooling system has been well maintained to ensure proper reliability on track (records available).
 The oil pump nut was Loctited and staked on to the oil pump shaft so the gear won’t come loose.
 The outer tie-rods were replaced as preventative maintenance to avoid any on-track loss of steering “incidents.”
 The front control arms and bushings were also replaced as they are considered a wear item, especially when the car is tracked.
 The rear trailing arm bushings were replaced with Delrin bushings.
 Performance alignment
 Ground Control rear shock mounts (sometimes the stock mounts fail, allowing the shocks to poke through into the trunk, not good – the Ground Control mounts eliminate this potential failure mode)

Niggles
• The car is almost 10 years old. It is rust free. The paint is shiny and I wash and wax it regularly. There is normal stone chip wear on the front bumper cover and behind the wheels – rocks like sticky tires. There are a few blemishes in the paint that I will try to show with pictures – nothing major. The car looks like a well cared for, 10-year old daily driver because it has been well cared for and driven daily- about 10 miles to work, 10 miles back home, 5 days a week. It is certainly not trashed or anything, just the usual wear and tear.
• The shifter sticks in the 5-th gear gate when it is not warmed up and the weather is cold. During the summer it is fine, even when the transmission is cold. This is a common problem with BMWs of this vintage. The spring loaded centering bushing that BMW first used was designed with tolerances that were just a touch tight. This means that when the transmission is cold the bushing can stick, leaving no centering affect for the shift lever. Once the transmission warms up and everything expands, the bushing comes unstuck and works fine. BMW has a kit out that has replacement parts to fix this problem – I have the kit and it will go with the car. Personally, I wouldn’t worry about it unless you ever had to pull the transmission out for some reason as the only way to install the kit is with the transmission out. There is a thread a mile long on Bimmerforums.com about this issue.
• That’s about it for niggles and annoying little stuff. The car runs, shifts, stops, turns and drives great. Clutch is good, no slippage. AC works fine, everything works. Track it, autocross it, drive it to work – gas and go – repeat.

Reason for selling - I want an E36 M3 convertible.

hey, just to help you out. Limit the pics on this page. I'm on a decent connection and it is taking a while. It seems like some are duplicates. If you reduce it and put a link to the full list of pics it will help your sale I bet.

The HID are just the bulb replacement style. They aren't angel eyes or anything.

The struts/shocks were put on by the previous owner in 2004 when the car had about 80k miles. Car has 121k miles now so the Konis have 41k on them. They work fine but if you are going to track the car and adjust them alot I would at least get new rears. The rears on the car are the kind that you have to take the whole shock off to adjust - you would want to get the externally adjustable kind.

Also, revalving Konis is typically more expensive than buying new ones. Unless you want a custom set-up.... :)

#1) All M3s are "Track Ready" out of the box! #2) All major maintenance items are taken care of and it has a nice suspension setup, thats all you really need. My 2 cents. BTW I might be interested in trading one of my M3 Track Cars for that 4 Runner, get ahold of me. Thanks

Yes, and no. The cars do have some things that need attention, especially now that the newest 1999 E36 M3 is 9 years old. I wouldn't track one with out some prep. New control arms, various bushings, tie rod ends, rear shock mount, cooling system maintenance and the oil pump nut. That plus racing brake pads would be the minimum in my opinion. (Hope I didn't forget any of the basics). :)

I agree with you, it is nice piece of mind to have all of that done before tracking the car. I have to admit there were a couple of times I was short on money and time in the last few years and I switch M3s alot. I just Tech Inspected it, made sure nothing was loose or sloppy, checked the bushings, RSMs, made sure Brake fluid and Oil was fresh and pads had good life and went to the track. I had just as much fun and ran bumper to bumper with all of the guys that had all of the expensive mods ect....... safety is always first though. These cars are bulletproof!!!!! My last M3 had 186,000 miles on it and I tracked it 13 track days and drove it to and from, the only thing I changed besides the brakes and brake fluid and oil all year was the drive belt. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!

Yep - they are amazing cars for the money. What groups do you run with at Black Hawk Farms? I've always wanted to drive that track and it's not too far from me.

I will look around, im pretty connected on BMWs in the area. E36 or E46 Convertables?

I Instruct for both Windy City BMW and Badger Bimmers so I run the Instructors Group. Badger at Blackhawk is cool, they let the Instructors switch around and run in different Groups. If you ever do a Badger Event let me know, my e-mail is: jleeder1@aol.com. Later, Paul

PMs and emails responded too.

I just pulled the Delrin RTAB bushings as I don't think they are right for a street car. I put new stock ones back in with Vorshlag limiters. The car is going to the alignment shop tomorrow.

Last week I replaced the original rubber caliper bushings with the brass ones (got them from Pelican Parts). All rotors were measured and are well within spec (thickness).

This week I am also going to rebuild the front brakes again as the dust boot in the right side came loose (?).

Do you instruct with MC @ Blackhawk also? I had an instructor there last year who had a prepped E30... you?

BTW, this car is soooo tempting, but I'm going back to school, so cash is going to be tight even with a hi-miles non-M.
