Has anyone had any issues linking up their garage door opener with the homelink memory buttons on the rear view mirror? Went through the proceedure correctly, but when I hit the button, the garage door just laughs at me. Could it be a sensor in my garage or is this a common issue?
Thanks :)

Some garage doors are harder than others... They have a rolling code. When I linked up mines to my Acura you needed 2 people. One on a ladder touching a button on the garage motor and the other in the car. Your garage motor is probably of the same sort...

I have to rolling codes. 2 step process. 1st did you hold the hand held about 4 inches from the read view mirror button. Hold both buttons for 20 - 30 sec until the small light on the rear view window starts to rappidly flash, then you press the red button on the garage door unit, once pressed you have 30 sec to go to your car and press the button you the mirror that you are going to use 3 times, the door then should open.

my SA sync'd all of them for me. he also programmed my radio, programmed the default steering wheel buttons and other things, like how long i want my signals to blink on and off, how long i want my lights to stay on, how to default set the climate control, etc.
i think he spent like 45 minutes going through all of it, and at the time, i was like: COME ON! i want to go!
but now? so glad he did. cause that would be me, with the laughing garage door!
bimmergirly, if it doesn't work - take your garage opener to the dealership and have one of the SA's program it for you. takes less than a minute.

Bimmerlygirl:
Go to the Homelink site and you will see that the step that is most of the time left out is pushing the (usually green) button on the garage door opener itself. Be it one push or many (usually just one).
Hope this helps

The car manual actually covers both sets of steps needed for a rolling code garage door opener. Just follow those steps and it will work just fine.
The trick can be getting the mirror and your hand-held garage door opener remote to "see" each other. The manual mentions holding it at differing distances from the mirror and re-trying to get it to work. In addition to holding the remote in front of the mirror (towards the back of the car), also try holding the remote below the mirror and between the mirror and the windshield. One of those three positions should do the trick for you. Taking it to the dealer will only solve half the problem. They can program the car to the remote, but you still have to do the step at home with the garage door opener unit if you have a rolling code unit (most modern ones are).
Like other's have said, it's most likely the rolling code.
After you program the button, have someone push the button and you should see the garage door opener flash or at least click. Then there's a button you need to push on the opener to set up the connection. Then the opener should click or flash again and the door opens/closes.
