Well today is it I'm sick and tired of the rotted out Cat and loud exhaust. I'm going to purchase a glasspack or anything to replace that Cat and give it a nice rumble and not sound like it's falling apart. If any of you guys have part #'s and make or type discription it will be greatly appreteated. I am going to replace the muffler also but everywhere I go the same thing "oh, that is a special order part and will take a week or so." I'm really looking for something off the shelf.
Thanks

if ur gonna replace the cat w/ glasspacks, u may as well get a custom exhaust system made. either from the exhaust manifold back, or from where-the-cat-used-to-be back (u'll be able to use aftermarket headers if u do the latter).

plus u'll be able to put on pretty much any muffler that'll fit......i don't really have any recomendations, altho i think some e21 owners have put dynomax (walker) and flomasters on and they like it. but i would suggest that u try to go all stainless steel so it'll last a long time.

kyle (83is) has a custom exhaust made, no cat, glasspacks......he could probably give u better insight and suggestions for ur exhaust setup and what to expect.

also, nic has a really cool write up on his custom exhaust that he made for his m42 powered e21: M42 custom exhaust (http://www.bimmerboys.com/webpage/silverdust/M42/exhaust.htm)

Yea i have a full custom exhaust on my car as jbob said its 2 1/4 pipe manifold back with the a foot long glasspack blank its a pretty loud and throaty setup when you let off the gas it pops and rumbles it also does this while you shift pretty cool sound, but i belive since i will be driving a half hour to work all summer im going to change the setup this spring to a flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber for alil somthin different and somwhat quiter sound cuz when the windows are down and your cruisin around this set up is REALLY LOUD! :buttrock. I belive Nic has a super turbo on his (is that right Nic?) Nic how does yours sound is it raspy, throaty,or loud? think its possible to get sound?

Thanks for your replies I'm going to go with a custom set up and I want 2 1/4" as well. Since the last owners just spot welded all the pipes and extensions I have no means of droping the existing set up except to cut into it. Then I'll bring it to a shop and have them reproduce it in a full custom job.
