It cranks over just fine, but has no indication that it ever wants to start. It gave no indication that anything was wrong the last time I drove it, but I got in today and nothing.

Going to check and see if it is getting fuel first, then I am going to check on spark. If both of those check out, I am going to grab my ankles and take it to the mechanic.

Check the crank position sensor also. If that is not working right, the fuel pump will not prime itself before it cranks making the car a 3700 pound papar weight.

umm, is this a valid idea?

Stomp test. See if there's a code.

?? Honestly I have no idea if there would be one, in this situation. Just a thought.

Nice. I forgot I had to replace that to when I did my AIM

Definitely go for the fuel pump and fuel related electronics. Spark will only kill one cylinder but will still start unless your DME is screwed (less likely).

Check the fuel pump fuse

keep coming back to the car trying to start it. Usually, when the fuel pump goes, it goes slowly allowing the fuel to be pumped intermittently

Thanks guys. Which fuse is fuel pump? How do you check crank position sensor? Also, I'll throw the battery charger on overnight and see if it is a bit low. It is an older battery and it got down in the 30s last night. I pulled (er pushed) the car into the sunlight to warm it up to see if that gets the old juices in the battery flowing.

for the batt, just try and jump start it if you have another car or a fancy emergency kit

Use a multimeter and probe the 1st and 2nd contact on the CPS plug. It should read around 1250 ohms or 550 ohms.

The fuel pump relay could have died also, it is orange and in the e-box on the right side where the DME is.

Check the fuel pump fuse

Well, it was about time to put the 540 up for the winter, so I had just started driving the 525 when this stopped running. Ya, it was a $.40 fuse, now it is running fine. Unfortunately the trans in the 525 went (180K miles) so I will be driving the 540 in the snow & salt:mad. I guess I will just try to keep it washed off as much as I can.

Derek remember, don't be so doom & gloom, check the cheap $&#t first.
