Hey everyone, I currently have a 2007 335I coupe, selling that beast for a possible Z4. I was wondering how sterling grey stays up to swirl marks? No matter how safe I was and if I even looked at the car let alone touch it you could see in direct sun lots of swirls. I was wondering if the sterling grey "hides" the swirls better, similar to silver greyor TiAg?? Thanks!

I have a 2005 Sterling Grey Z4. It is easy to keep it looking clean.

I can’t speak directly to the color sterling grey, but I can tell you that the best way to keep swirls out of your paint is to never ever let your car pass through a brush carwash. Touch-free car washes are fine (and a car wash is better for the environment than washing at home since they recycle the water and keep the soap and chemicals out of the ground water).

I have a car with beautiful deep-blue paint—except that the paint has swirls. It came that way from the dealer who promised me it would “buff out”. I had it professionally buffed in addition to the dealer having it buffed. Buffing never worked; it only made the swirls shinier. I was told by a body shop manager that the bristles from automatic brush wash can often get into the paint pretty deep and you’d probably need to apply another coat of clear paint. I’m not a car paint expert, but, I can say that I will never again buy a car that came with swirls--since I now know they cannot be eliminated (at least not cheaply). OTOH, I also have a dark grey car that has never been through a bristly car wash and the paint is swirl-free.
