SOLD!!!! SOLD!!!! SOLD!!!!

I wont get into the reason I need to sell, other than it is financial and has NOTHING to do with the condition of this car (as IMO it is perfect!).

I am in Greensboro, North Carolina, 27410

Please Note: I will try to post pictures this weekend

2001 750iL (not protection model, not highline interior)
* 84k miles (almost)
* oxford green/sand interior
* all options in perfect working condition unless mentioned below
* wide-screen nav, MKIII
* IR windshield
* MPAR wheels
* I know I'll never be able to remember all the options that come on this car (there is a standard list somewhere!), but here are a few of my personal favs: xenons, rain-sensing wipers, butt massaging front seats!, nav, steptronic tranny with sport mode, optional sport suspension, frt and rear parking assist,

Maintenance (totally up on ALL scheduled maintenance)
* oil changed on 8/1/07 @ 81500 miles
* all air filters changed within last month (engine air filters, under-hood charcoal filters, in-cabin air circulation filters)
* I have BMW print out of all maintenace done up to 50k miles, but nothing between 50K miles and when I purchased it at 80K miles.

What I've done since purchase on 8/1/07:
* replaced foglight bulbs with HOEN Xenonmatch bulbs
* replaced both kidney grills because they were loose
* bought new OEM floor mats
* added 3 V12 emblems; 2 on sides behind front wheels and one on back
* replaced integrated phone in center armrest console with OEM storage tray

What you should know about:
* Interior (EVERYTHING) is practically perfect. No pixel displays out, leather seats are perfect, leather dash/console/etc.. are perfect. No broken cup holders, ashtrays, etc... Driver's side door handle area is a bit dirty but I haven't taken the time to clean it up with leather cleaner yet. All sunshades work perfectly.
* Exterior is in excellent condition, however there are a few chips in the paint from normal driving. Appears as though the previous owner tried to touch them up with touch up paint but you can still see them if you look hard.
* The two rear MPAR wheels have significant curb rash (I'd say something like maybe 75% of the circumference of each wheel has some rash). The two front wheels are pretty good but not perfect (maybe 5% rash). I'll try to take pictures of all wheels after the rain stops and I can wash the car. I had every intention of having this rash corrected, as I understand it is not an expensive repair.
* Passenger side front turn signal lense has a very small crack where it appears to have been hit by a rock. You could place a nickel over the whole thing. I have never had any intention of replacing this, as there is no condensation or any negative impact of this crack.
* Driver side, rear seat headrest is currently unplugged. On 8/19/07 I began hearing a clicking sound when I started the car and tracked it down to a broken plastic piece in the $120 headrest motor. I have not had time to repair yet (but plan to if I keep car), so I just unplugged it. When plugged in, it works perfectly except that when I start up the car, the motor tries to lower it to the unoccupied position (which it is already in) and it clicks for about 10 seconds until it times-out. The clicking irrates me and I was also afraid additional damage would result so I unplugged it.
* All window and sunroof switches work perfectly with the exception of the driver window. I often have to push it 3-5 times before it will roll the window up (only once to roll it down). It has never not worked, but often takes a few pushes to activate. I imagine a dirty contact.. just haven't taken the time to investigate yet.
* Can't think of anything else, but if I do I will post an update.

I would prefer a trade over selling this car outright (just seems easier for everyone):
Because I definitely want another e38, but am not very picky because I need something inexpensive to carry me through a couple years in order to move past an unexpected financial issue that arose since I bought this car.

Here are my requirements for a trade:
* E38 1996 or newer 740 (i or iL) basically don't want the M60 V8 engine; or 1995 or newer 750
* don't mind a fixer-upper, not afraid of DIY, but would expect it to be priced accordingly
* price range - depending on year/model/miles & condition of your car, I'm looking for something valued from $4000 - $10000
* color scheme: I wont be too picky about exterior color (favorites are green, red, white, blue, everything else), but I am not a black interior guy... will listen to your offer, but don't get your feelings hurt if I don't accept it based strictly on a black interior.

Here's my advice on how to come to an acceptable trade difference value (I'd like this to be considered a win-win for both of us):
* Get the Kelley Blue Book Private Party value of your car. If you feel it is in Excellent condition, please justify it, as I would not honestly expect one in my price range to qualify as excellent.
* The KBB PP value of my car in Good condition is $20995 and in Excellent condition is $22375.
* Although I do believe my car is in excellent condition, using the Good condition value of $20995, subtract the KBB PP value of your car and that would be our starting point. If you have upgrades, we can agree to add to your value. If your car needs repairs (ie. radiator, frt/rr suspension, catalytic converters, pixels displays out, plugs, etc..), we will need to make appropriate deductions to your KBB value (unless you've taken that into consideration in your 'condition').
* shoot me an email or call me with your offer!

If you want to purchase outright, my price would be $19,000 (almost $3.5K less than KBB)

I haven't figured out how to post pictures here yet, but I posted around 17 pictures on the forsale forum at bimmerboard.com. Please take a look there. thx!

Exterior update:
* the seal around the windshield could use to be replaced. There is no leaking, but it looks ugly.
* both seals at the rear of the back doors is beginning to deteriorate. Again there is no leaking, but they don't look new.

sounds like the nakasil (sp?) issue may not be as big a deal as I thought; regardless, I love both the e32s and the e38s and can be happy with either. since finances are my major concern right now, the e32s might even be a better option for me due to their price ranges.

so if you have an e32 (especially a 750!) in at least decent shape and are interested in trading for an '01 750iL in excellent shape, please contact me. I've also posted my car for sale on AutoTrader and am happy to sell it outright - whatever works!

GrimReefer (love that name!)
Thanks and good luck to you. I've had a bit of interest in swapping for my car, but so far everyone has been on the West coast and the distance seems to be a bit of a sticking point. I am prepared to take my time in selling/trading this car (because I love it!), so check back with me when you are ready to purchase... I may still have it!

E30chillin:
Not my first choice, but surprisingly the 540 was my 2nd choice behind the E38. Not really wanting a manual, but will entertain all offers. Email me with specifics, I'll do some research and get back to you.

I figured I'd provide my thoughts for all interested members...

In the past 6 months I have tried to sell 2 very nice cars through cars.com and autotrader.com with NO success (just frustration!).

One was an '04 Dodge Dakota Quad cab truck that I special ordered with every possible option (including leather). It had less than 28k miles on it and I was asking $14,900 obo with factory bumper to bumper 6 year 70k mile extended warranty. After 4 months with only a couple phone calls, I relutantly sold it to CarMax for a measly $13K so I could move forward with my E38 purchase. I cashed in the remainder of my extended warranty for about $500. They put it on their lot (no ext warranty) for $17699 and it sold in a couple weeks (and we know they got full price because they don't haggle).

The other was a 2000 Mercedes Benz E320 wagon 4-matic with 113k miles - perfect condition. Started at $14,900, dropped to $12,900 and after about 6 months without a single person coming to test drive it (many said they were but never showed up!), I sold it to my best friend (for his wife) for $12k.
My only point here is that as private party sellers, I personally find it very frustrating and difficult to attract potential buyers. I don't know if its the financing issue (I can't finance someone else!), the fear others have of purchasing from a private party, or what... but it is something! Personally I'd rather purchase from a PP because I don't need financing, typically get a better price, and I know the history of the car!... but I must be in the minority.

So, since the members of this forum obviously appreciate the E38s and since I want to stay in an E38, I was hoping there could be a win-win scenario where neither of us have to sell for less than dealers can get for our cars or have to deal with selling our cars through the internet (God forbid, ebay!) and it taking forever to get a fair price! (not to mention dealing with people that call and say they'll come to see your car this weekend and never show up!).

So that is my reasoning... yet I've still spent the $69 to put it on Autotrader just in case... Thanks for listening, scott

Did this car sell? To bad you're not in SoCal.

I'm looking for a 740iL or 750iL in SoCal :(

I'm still up for a possible sell or trade, but the longer I drive this car the harder it will be to give up the goodies you get with an '01 750..... think I would especially miss the steptronic tranny! Just took about a 750 mile trip through the WV mountains and can't say enough about this car....

good luck on your search... and if you become interested, shoot me an email and maybe we can work something out.

I can definitely identify with your "Autotrader frustration". Seems like although people take the time to call, they don't seem to be genuenly interested.

I'm not currently interested in a trade, but if after your sale, and my car is still available.... It's a 93 with 63K on the clock. Good condition for it's age.

By the way, just vacationed a bit south from you this summer, very nice area!

I haven't taken the time to figure out how to post pictures here yet, but I have posted many to my forsale ad on bimmerboard.com. Just do a search in the forsale forum for "750" and you'll see my ad with the same title as my ad here. If you have problems, I can send you pictures or you can pull up my AutoTrader ad... search for 2001 750il near zipcode 27410 and you will see it.

AMBERROOT: thanks, once I sell I will be looking for something like that.
