Hi everyone.

I'm a proud owner of Z4 since 2005. At the time of purchase, I wanted to economize so I didn't order the BMW Professional navigation system. Now, however, especially after having the İpod connection installed and seeing that the business cd does not show the id3 tags, I'm seriously thinking about ordering the BMW Professional navigation system. I would be grateful to hear your advice on this? The BMW branch here in Bucharest has given me a price tag of approx 1.700 USD. Is it worth the extra investment?

Thanks

I'm have no expirience with this but $1700 seems really cheap to me and a good deal. I think the price for nav right now if you were ordering a new car is more expensive than that.

Suggest you actually try out a factory navigation system before purchase. You will want to be certain that it is truly useful in the areas you drive.
Find out if the system can be updated from time to time and what will be the cost.
My own personal experience is with non-BMW factory navigation systems. I have found them to contain obsolete information, hard to load destinations and expensive to update compared with portable aftermarket navigation systems.

I work for a BMW steelership, that is what we quote customers for that nav sys, they are great systems and they are easialy updated at a nominal cost, i recommend doing so when you have your scheduled services. if you are going to get navigation that is the one to get. But you will not use it as much as you think you will keep that in mind. it is a useful tool when you are out of town but how often do you take your Z on vacation???

I bought my husband a Mio nav from circuit city for his birthday for like $300 and he loves it. He is constantly trying to come up with reasons why his is better than mine. Up until last night he had some reasons, but not anymore...

Thanks for the feedback. They were all very useful. I'll try to get more info. on the coverage/updateability of the system from the dealership and decide accordingly.

I have the factory NAV and look forward to having the IPOD connection installed. The factory NAV provides you with the ability to view the onboard computer data like miles-before-empty, outside temp, MPG and time. You can also view your phone book if you have bluetooth. The NAV system has been accurate and the voice over turn-by-turn allows your music to continue to play in the background. It also allows you to turn the monitor off and still receive voice directions. Great for night driving. My understanding is that I will be able to view the playlists from my Ipod once it is installed. Not sure though.

Is this the NAV that pops up out of the dash above the air vents? Only $1700? That's less than as optioned from BMW isn't it?

Yes but that is Bucharest dollars. I can't imagine you can get the stock BMW Nav for that installed in the states, parts and labor.

I stand corrected, still a very good price for a nav unit I think, thanks for the info:) I just assumed all Euro currency was doing better than the dollar, I had no Idea some countries still based their economy on it over there.

Guess I'll call the stealership and see if that's reality...

I'm going to look at a 05' Z4 with nav today, what do you navigation users think of the interface? My father has an 03 M5 with nav and an 04 X5 with it, and they are both great, but the knob is also right next to the screen.. I thought with the knob below the screen it might be odd/confusing.

What do you think?
