View Full Version : My HID problem
TNation 09-10-2007, 10:08 PM I have 9600 HID's installed on my 98 323is. My left HID is really strong and is actually almost white now, its lost its blue tint almost.. why is this?? My right HID is actually flickering like madly, and I find if I flick the switch multiple times, it seems to work, but it flickers for a while. I checked the harness and it all seems screwed in and tight and the ballast is secure.. any advice on whats causing this?

what kind of kit do you have? where did you mount the ballasts? switch the bulbs from side to side and see if the problem folllows, bulbs being dim or of different color can be anything from a connection issue to the bulb not being properly secured in the bulb housing.
heresmymind 09-11-2007, 11:41 AM that is common with PnP (plug n play) kits. 9005/9006 bulbs should not have HID installed in them to begin with they cause hella glare and wont properly put out light. PnP kits tend to have bulbs COLOR SHIFT which is what happened to yours. at un even times. OEM HIDs on bmw. all start out white/yellow and color shift around 100 hours of use to the white color that everyone strives to achieve. Your Best Bet is to retrofit OEM projectors with OEM ballasts+bulbs into your car. If you want the Blue look you can easily color mod projectors to put a nice blue line along the cut off. register at HIDPLANET.COM and tell them heresmymind sent you. You will learn a lot!

yeah its hard to pin down, I think the bulb's not secured well. ARG. And whoever installed the HID's in before secured them really tight and there's a lot of stuff to unscrew and untighten haha.

Thanks a lot man, I didn't install this kit! LOL I bought it with my car, I should've known it would be a glare-causing kit.
96m3SC 09-13-2007, 02:13 AM when it flickers the bulb is bad even if its a new bulb... i had the same problem when i first bought my hid kit. it flicker like crazy about two weeks into it............. checked all wiring was tight and even switch ballast and wirings all to find out it was a bad bulb............sent the bulb back to the manufactured and got a new one and everthing is perfect right now.
i love HIDS

WHAT THE HECK!!!
I took off both ballasts, switched both ballasts, checked all the wires, and everything is working perfectly on one side, the right side, but the left side is still flickering.. I can't figure it out! the bulb looks okay even on the faulty left side too when i took it out, it shines. Its so weird, if I flick the switch on and off a lot the bulb doesn't flicker very much at all and stays a constant, but very dull blue color. But if I flick it on once, it just flickers like mad. And me and my mechanic scowered the car looking for a loose or poorly connected wire, everything is in tip-top shape and as I said, both ballasts work properly and the voltage is correct from the ballast to the lights. I don't want to have to splice the good ballast to the other light, because that might not even work if its just the bulb.. do you think thats what it is???
thanks guys!
heresmymind 09-14-2007, 09:38 AM dont use 1 ballast to power 2 bulbs. you'll ruinthe ballast. the flicker when they dont have a strong ground. do you have an upgraded wire harness like you should? if you used a stock wire harness did you put a larger fuse in (pnp hid kits recommend liek 25 i believe). check those first. all hid applications should use a upgraded wire harness that will draw power directly from the battery with strong grounds. and you're flickering will go away. and it will be much safer, 0 chance of electrical fire!

?
propr`one 09-22-2007, 04:05 PM Prime the ballast. Disconnect the problematic bulb from the ballast, turn the ballast on, wait 20 seconds, turn it off, wait 20 seconds, plug the bulb in.
If it still doesn't work, you have a ballast or bulb issue, in which case PM me, i can both talk you through identifying what's broken, and if you dont have warranty, i can source you individual replacement parts so that you dont have to buy a new kit.

1. The bulb used in HIDs is not a standard bulb. Its unlikely youll find it locally youll have to order one probably.
What special up graded wireing harness are you talking about? Ive never seen one that runs all the way to the battery.....Im sure using a pnp harness from reputable seller is just fine. How do you figure its the fuse? The fuse works or it doesnt it wouldnt partial work causing lights to flicker..Thats rediculas.Good chance its a connection of some kind or a defective part.I cant understand why you think you can fix this mans problems on what little you know dont tell people something will fix a problem when you dont know
zx7rhitch 09-22-2007, 04:25 PM OK after seeing your profile (heresmymind) I know now what the problem is you drive a 94 maxima.....your in wrong forum this is a BMW forum not for Nissans Oh well at least I know now where the problem lies
