I'm not sure if I saw it here but, someone said OBD I cars will no longer need to pass emissions...is this true?

Well... my 1992 525I needs a new cat, but i was thinking on getting rid off that and reprogram the ECU to run without it..

it is a FACT. im a state inspector and i heard this from all my teachers from my tech school. This means the cats are coming out

I spoke to a friend of mine who has a friend that works in a station doing the inspections; this guy said that he didn't hear anything about it and it doesn't make any sense because older cars are worse at emissions than newer.
So here we are for someone to bring more light to this.
I haven't check prices for cats, but I'm sure I'll need more than $500 to buy ones for my car...plus the O2's.....:(

(same principal as antique cars not needing emmisons) all obd2 cars also do NOT need to run on the dyno. they simply get plugged into the computer and the car tells exactly how its been running. they can tell everything from just that little snitchin obd2 port..

That is exactly how NY does it, definitely sucks for the OBD2 people, guess there goes doing a euro swap and registering it in MA...oh well thank god I didn't just do it like I was going to over the summer.

well, idk in other states, but it was banned in florida long time ago.

Oh, for all cars, not just OBD1. We don't do it down here anymore. :D

Here in NH they don't hook you up to the machine or anything like that, but they are still required to do a visual inspection. If the cats are missing, you fail. They don't have to work, but they must be present.

I don't think they'll notice the difference between a cat and a resonator in the same place...

OBD 1 cars will hafto pass a visual inspection (look for cats) and a audiable (listen for leaks). NO more dyno NO more NOX/CO2/O2 read outs. just a safty inspection and a exhaust check. you do need to have cats visible.
