sickyute 09-10-2007, 12:30 PM can anyone in here tell me what i am or may be experiencing?
took delivery on thursday night and all was good.
Saturday i try to go out and i see this:
park brake malfunction
awd + dsc malfunction
rear view camera malfunction
and some other malfunctions i can't remember
5 or 6 malfunctions in all popped up on the screen after 2 days (friday + sat.) of ownership. it won't even start!
had to get it towed to the dealership this morning after manually releasing the park brake and manually unlocking the transmission!
such bullshit after $70,000 spent!
what gives?
no word from the service department yet.
Critter7r 09-10-2007, 04:51 PM Who pays cash for cars these days?
sickyute 09-10-2007, 08:29 PM Who pays cash for cars these days?
people who can afford to and don't depend on a credit system that's out to get you more than anything else.
i'm not an american, wasn't brought up in a credit system so i'm not keen on living on a credit system.
sickyute 09-11-2007, 03:20 PM well...
today they are saying it's not the battery, not the alternator and not the starter module like they thought it may be yesterday.
THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS!!! not music to my ears at all!!!
they are saying it's something to do with the CAST. whatever that is. that something in or around it is blocking voltage or something to that effect.
sounds like a load of BS to me and it just sounds like they don't know.
i'm told if i'm lucky i'll have it back on Friday!!! if i'm lucky!!
i bough the car on Thursday and it's not working from Saturday but if i'm lucky i'll have it back on Friday? how does that sound.
to make it even worst! i've been driving around in a BS PT Cruiser cuz they don't have loaners available.
how unacceptable is that?
advice?
Biglew 09-11-2007, 09:47 PM It's called a CAS. It's not BS, they are brand new cars so no one has alot of experience on them so everything is a learning process.
Also, the problem with modules such as the CAS, they can't just be swapped out, they have to be approved by BMW's tech support (PuMA). It is also a vin specific item so even if it is the problem it must be special ordered.
I agree it sucks, but be patient is all I can say.
Also, hate to sound like a broken record but, first model year bugs.
sickyute 09-12-2007, 10:41 AM just got off the phone.
bmw north america spoke with them i guess so they called.
they'll get me into a proper loaner.
the problem seems to be with the CAS. they are awaiting advice from bmw tech service as to if they should reprogram it or replace it.
FineProperty 09-20-2007, 12:51 AM Wanting an update on this. Drove a 4.8 X5 today, nice ride, I'm jealous that you have one, concerned about what may have broken.
And...cash is king...I like to own things I can afford, as a reward for work completed, not a gift for work I will do in the future. If the numbers work between me and the fed, you could talk me in to a lease. I keep cars for 4-5 years, and modify them, and have multiple sets of wheels/exhaust, etc.
sickyute 09-20-2007, 11:15 AM well ... another update.
turns out it wasn't the CAS.
they are replacing the sifter/contorle module/shifter switch ... the whole thing. i thinks it's a complete unit with the shifter and whatever's below it.
they are also replacing a megatron i was told which a bmw tech advised that they should.
they have the shifter module thing already. they are awaiting the megatron as that's coming directly from bmw somwhere else.
friday will be 2 wks and counting.
OT: what kind of loaner did they get you? I wonder if the "quality" of the loaner car goes up with value of the car being serviced...
BlackSapphireZ 09-20-2007, 09:49 PM sickyute from 8th civic! lol
funny how we meet over here :)
oh i'm CivicwithNav btw
killcrap 09-21-2007, 03:02 AM its called the mechatronics. its the valve body, and the electronic transmission control module built into one.
Shodanusmc 09-21-2007, 10:18 AM When my Wife's X5 4.4 is in for service, I get a BMW loaner for the day. Last time was a 335....Motorwerks in Barrington, Il. knows how to take care of their customers. When my E55 goes in, I usually get a E320 or C280 for the day. Can't complain.
Biglew 09-21-2007, 09:37 PM Megatron, LOL!
Mad Dragon 09-21-2007, 10:02 PM OT: what kind of loaner did they get you? I wonder if the "quality" of the loaner car goes up with value of the car being serviced...Depending on the dealership, you get what's available. That could be anything from a 7-series to a Corolla to something from Enterprise. Usually, you can call ahead and reserve a car when you make your appointment.

a 3 series.
far from the same value.
sickyute 09-21-2007, 11:30 PM its called the mechatronics. its the valve body, and the electronic transmission control module built into one.
yeah that.
it's all in now and the car started fine. they did it while i was there.
they didn't release it to me though cuz they didn't do a road test and other tests yet, as they stated.

:lol lmao, not to bag on the OP but that was hilarious to read.
I just imagined two techs standing over the engine bay pulling out a greasy Megatron Transformers toy, "Yep Bill, that's the problem right der"
djminkin 09-25-2007, 08:58 AM I had a similar issue with my last X5 with the transmission. THey couldnt get the proper computer program to get it right. Took about 8 trips to the dealership for them finally to get close to getting it right. Still bought another one. Once you get it fixed you will forget all about this ordeal, theres not too many better SAV's on the road.

I was starting to think that maybe they should try replacing the flux capacitor next!!:lol
sirtiger 09-26-2007, 08:48 PM Who pays cash for cars these days?
I pay cash for all 3 of my cars. cash is king.
my friend sold his 4.4 after 2 yrs of virtually living in the stealership. I have little confidence with the x5/x3 lineup. My uncle 4.6 is not trouble free by far either after a few yrs of ownership
ajc512 10-24-2007, 07:39 PM the kind of problems you were having after two days of ownership; i am surprised they didn't just get you a new car. am i naive?
