Im a new owner of 2000 740IL and this is my first post here,
In the first place a big thanks for cooperation and help, this forum has been very helpful for me figuring out the common issues and finding a well maintained car.
I was checking the coolant level and did not secure tightly the radiator cap, so after 15 min of driving in the city got "check coolant level" light and after parked saw that some coolant is flowing out through the radiator cap.I added some non distilled water about a half gallon and drowe it home, noticed that the temperature arrow was reading more than it usually does and Im wandering should I flush and change all the fluid in the system, or just add it to reach the level? How do I know what type of fluid is in the system and are different fluids mixable at all? Thank you

Congrats on the purchase; welcome to the family!

You may need to bleed the system.

Here are instructions: (from www.e38.org , your best friend!)

OEM BMW or a phosphate-free coolant like Zerex G-05 is ideal for topping off vs. non-distilled water.
