Half the time when I start my car it sounds like someone's banging the gong under the hood. It goes away, and I've gathered BMW says "Don't worry," but that's not how things are supposed to be. Bang bang bang until it goes away.

That does not sound right at all.

I reported same under "mysterious motor tick" on 9/5 (thread 824138). Mad Dragon referred me to "SI B 11 o-09 07" which requests dealer to perform a procedure. Haven't scheduled it yet.

The guy didn't offer much in the way of a diagnosis, but he did direct me to the local shop.

I was most impressed with the call and the way BMWNA monitors these forums and offers whatever help it can. They're serious about BMW owners and their satisfaction.

yea he helped me direct to a dealer(which didn't do much for my sticky steering) but it's funny how they get your info from the forum... they called me on my cell now how is it that they find out about those info?

They are stalkers.....In a good way.:)

Just for the record, the ticking sound I complained of went away. Perhaps it was an air bubble in the oil system. Note, I changed oil (Mobil 1, which factory told me was an approved alternative to Castrol Synthetic) about three weeks before I noted the noise.
