View Full Version : -====gb: Par Intakes - $150!!!====-
M325M 03-13-2003, 02:28 PM This is a rare opportunity to purchase a high quality and an affordable intake at an even discounted price. A recent dyno sheet was posted on BF.com which showed a 11.2 hp gain over stock with the PAR intake on a 96 3.2L M3. It adds a nice growl to the engine. As we all know, the E36 responds very well to an intake. There is no difference in quality when comparing PAR to the other more expensive brands. Don't waste your time getting the Ebay cold air intakes which has horrible fitment. Don't waste your money buying from more expensive brands when the quality of the kits are identical and the performance gains are the same and maybe even inferior to PAR. PAR intakes are very easy to install and can be done under an hour for even the lesser mechanically inclined individuals. All the accessories needed for installation will be included as well along with the intake kit. This is a very special offer because PAR, being a relatively new player in the intake market, wants to get their company name out. So I'm not sure this offer will happen again in the near future. So don't miss out!!! If you have any questions please email me at shaodeee@yahoo.com. If you would like to join the GB please email me or reply here and include your email address. Thanks guys!
EDIT: ATTN: The filters that PAR is now offering with their intake kits are RED instead of blue. These are still the same filter with the same performance as the blue ones, just different colors. A very tasteful color change IMO.

Janolaw 03-13-2003, 03:21 PM Hey M. I see you beat me to it! I emailed Pete and he mentioned that you already made the enquiry. I definitely want in BUT I first need to figure out how to divert funds from my wife's death grip!
I'm definitely in. $150...oh yeah.
You might want throw a link to the other post on here. I'm really not into $350+ for an intake setup, so this is perfect. It's even cheaper than the one I had for my celica!!
Thanks!
Chris
chris.steckel@morganplc.com
did you ask anything about the heatshield? :az:
M325M 03-13-2003, 04:46 PM Janolaw: I know how it is bro...good luck!!
VB: I've sent an email inquring about heatshields...I'll post their reply as soon as I get their reply.

Chris,
The Kit should fit no problems at all. The kit includes all necessary hardware to install; Shield, Filter, Silicon adaptor, and extension pipe for the filter, all necessary hose clamps and a pictorial instruction booklet. The filter is made by Pilot which is a cotton based filter just like the K&N. Filter replacement is $25 but you should never have to replace it as long as you clean and oil it correctly. It will out last the car. Also, the filter flows very well and our dyno sheet speaks for itself.
If you have any other questions, let me know.
Regards,

M325M 03-13-2003, 05:07 PM v.b.: The heatshield can be purchased seperately for $75, however they are not offering any GB discounts on them. Sorry bro :(
How about Euro hfm intake? I need one that will work w/ a 3.5" HFM. Can we get in the group buy for this?

I have read the posts testifing to the quality of PAR intakes. The only thing preventing me from jumping on this GB is questions on pilot filter quality. I don't care how well it flows if it doesn't do its job; and just because the filter is made from the same materials as K&N doesn't necessarily mean that it will perform as well.
Is there any way PAR can use a K&N for $20-$30 more?
M325M 03-13-2003, 06:08 PM jayc: The Euro HFM kit is $190 + shipping. If there is enough interest, I can get a GB price for it.
lkstaack: Many people has had the PAR intake for well over a year now and I haven't heard any complaints on the quality and functionality of the filter.
i too am interested if the K&N can be used.
i am getting a quote tonight on a door ding fix, so i'll see what my funds look like. it would be awesome to get this for som cheap!!

You won't hear any complaints either. Not for awhile, anyway. It takes a while for an engine to get ruined from grit.
PDX M Coupe 03-13-2003, 06:56 PM Is there a kit available for an M coupe?
M325M 03-13-2003, 06:59 PM lkstaack: It's up to you bro :D You can buy the intake kit and throw away the Pilot filter and find a K&N filter that'll fit it...It'll still be cheaper than an ECIS. But I really think its a waste of time. As long as the filter is cleaned and oiled regularly, the life of the filter will be much longer than the car itself.

Carb_328 03-13-2003, 08:57 PM How long with this GB go? I might be interested if it goes into the beginning of april.
Would there be any discount if we purchased these minus the filter, ie save another 10 or 20 bucks then everyone could by k&n if they want to. Just a thought. Personally I would stay with the filter it comes with.
M325M 03-13-2003, 09:22 PM Slvr328is: What's so far fetched about 11 hp to the wheels? ECIS claims 10 hp to the wheels after their intake. Carb328: I'm not sure how long the GB will go on bro but I'll find out...I'm guessing maybe 2 or 3 weeks?? We already have 4 people committed and 2 "maybes" and it's only the first day.
vapor 03-13-2003, 09:32 PM People- this is a great buy! I almost wish that I would have waited! I got my PAR intake at the end of Feb.
Installed it last weekend, and the gains are 100% noticable.
1) More power
2) More reactive
3) Awesome growl
I am pleased to tears with my PAR intake, and the customer service that I got from Pete.

M325M 03-14-2003, 12:39 AM Update:
We already have 5 commited buyers for the E36 intake kits and 2 "maybes" . So the price has already dropped down to $160. We need 5 more buyers to get the $150 price. So try to spread the word guys!! Ask your friends, your sister's boyfriend's brother's sister ;) ...People who have committed...please give me a few days to work with PAR on how payment/shipping will work and I will send you all an email with payment information and shipping information.
2 people are interested EURO HFM kits...I think we need to get that # up to 5 before there will be any GB discount offered by PAR.
PDX - I will check with PAR if they offer an intake for the M coupe.
YelloJello 03-14-2003, 04:33 AM Sounds like a good deal to me for $150. That's the same price as the Benfer CAI but it doesn't come with heatshield (even though its supposed to be CAI). Most Likely i'll get the par

Wait, Wait...
Now I'm confused. I thought the heat shield came with the kits. Iam I right? $150 would include the heat shield, right?
Also, I am interested in using a K&N filter instead of the Pilot one. My last (2) cars had K&N's. I would rather pay more $$ and have the K&N fit to it. Can he quote these filters seperately as direct replacements?
Chris
sardil 03-14-2003, 11:45 AM $150 will get you the heat shield, all hoses and clamps, and the intake. I bought this directly from Pete Pham about 2 months ago. Nothing but praise for this guy. He even sold me his euro hfm + injectors chip! I def. recommend all you guys looking for an intake to jump on this one. IMO, you're wasting money paying $400 for a JC one, or $300 for an AA one. And hell, if you really want a different filter (ITG or K&N), its not too expensive, so just buy it separately. The rest of it is just the heat shield and hosing. And overall, it'll still cost you way less than any other intake setup.
I'm currently running the PAR intake with a 3.5" HFM, 24lbs injectors, and a TMS chip.
OK,
Just set this thing up already...I'm buying!

yes, when you get the payment info. pm me. it looks like i may be able to do this.

M325M 03-14-2003, 10:48 PM Pre-weekend Update
We now have 7 committed buyers and 5 "maybes" . I'd like to get 10+ committed buyers before we start sending payments to PAR. So keep the questions and comments coming guys. We need 3 more committed buyers. I'll send everybody, whether they are committed or maybes, some payment information on either Sunday or Monday.
Tas & Preppy: I'll check with PAR if they offer anything for the E46.
YelloJello: EURO HFM kit is for cars with the upgraded EURO HFM. The EURO HFM kit will not fit your car unless you have the euro hfm upgrade. Local to PAR would be in the SoCal, SD area.
One last thing: I apologize in advance if I don't answer your questions promptly this weekend. I currently have finals right now and I'm studying most of the time. I will do my best to answer all your inquiries in a reasonable amount of time. Thanks for understanding!

Sorry if I haven't been replying to emails. I haven't been ignoring you guys!!! It's just that I'm working on a confirmation email that I'll send to all of you tommorow. We now have 10 committed buyers so we should be getting the $150 price if nobody backs out. If you have any further questions please reply on the board and drop me an email.
Tas&Preppy - The E46 kit is still under development, if you are local in San Diego, please send an email to PAR.
Audioman - The K&N cleaning and oil kit will work just fine on the filter. The filter can also be cleaned with mild soap and detergent. You'll also need to reoil it and the K&N oil will work fine.
Thanks for your patience guys. You'll all receive a confirmation email from me tommorow. BLAH...now back to this accursed FINALS studying.
Ryan328i 03-15-2003, 07:11 PM Is there any more of a discount if 15 or so people. I'm interested but I don't want to say that I'm in yet. I'll keep checking this to see that status.

m3avrck 03-15-2003, 08:50 PM I think I might be in.
However, I need some more persuasion :) I love the price of $150. Originally I was looking at the AA intake, as I love the the top heat shield it had, in addition to the side wall ones.
However, is this really doing anything or just decreasing air flow?
Also, how well does the PAR sound to the AA one?
Once I can get some solid answers I think I am definetly in. Thanks.
M325M 03-15-2003, 09:33 PM m3avrck: The PAR intake setup is very similar to the AA one. I don't think the top intake cover has any functionality other than for looks. For sound, I've never heard an AA intake, but PAR has a really nice growl to it, and has gotten very good reviews from people who are using it. $350 compared to $150...hmmm would you pay $200 more just for the top intake cover??
Ryan328i: I don't think the price will drop anymore past $150...A large reason PAR is offering this promotion is to get their name out...but I'll keep you updated.
Keep the questions coming guys.

M325M posted just about everything available for the PAR on this board. I have been investigating CAI for about a year and have never come across sound clips. I don't think that most people are concerned with it. They want a high-quality product that increases HP. PAR fits that bill.
I have read (but have no first-hand knowledge) that CAI tubes such as Dinan, BENFER and ROAR produce a louder sound. I suspect that most above-bumper systems like ECIS, JC, AA, and PAR sound "about" the same.
yep, mark me down for one. thanks

A confirmation email will be sent out later today. If you'd like to be in and haven't emailed me or posted your email, please feel free to do so. After you receive the email and would like to be included the the GB, please follow the directions on the email. Thanks for your patience guys. :)
Hawaii: The GB ends 3/30 bro, but I'd like to get payments sent out by the end of next week. Shipping to Hawaii will be approxmiately $16 through the post office. Unfortunately, UPS does not offer ground and only 2 day air which is around $35. I can get you an exact # after the confirmation email.
AznLum: Unfortunately, I do not have a sound clip of the PAR intake. I have heard that it's a deep growl that I never heard any PAR user complain about. lkstaack is right, there aren't much difference in sound between the intakes.
///Mark- PAR currently does not have a website since they are relatively new. I'm sure they will soon, their great quality and customer service has been winning over a lot of business from the larger tuner companies.

M325M 03-16-2003, 05:18 PM Hey guys, I just finished the confirmation email, I'm just running it by PAR to make sure theres no other information they need. You should all receive it within a few hours.
TxnBluDvl & Bono: Sorry guys, unfortunately PAR is located in San Diego, not in San Jose. All intakes will be shipped from the PAR headquarters in San Diego to your respective addresses. If you are in the So-cal/SD area, I think pickup can be arranged. I will find out from PAR.
Guys, this is a great deal! I just installed my PAR Euro HFM kit and it sounds great! When I'm just cruising, it's quiet & mellow but once I go WOT, it releases a low deep growl. As for customer service, I called up Pete (owner of PAR) Friday night to ask him about this minor installation issue, left a message, and he returned my call within 10 mins!! Now that is what you call customer service!

CONFIRMATION EMAILS HAVE BEEN SENT OUT!!
I sent out the confirmation email today to anyone that expressed interested in participating in the GB. The faster you confirm, the faster you'll receive your intake ;) That's good enough incentive for me! :)
PS: I apologize if I sent the email to anyone twice, BF.com doesn't let me view the email addresses so I'm not sure if I emailed you through BF.com and through my regular email address.

cooltrav 03-17-2003, 12:08 AM im a bit confused with one thing. can i buy a euro hfm from par? or can i only but the kit which adds onto the euro hfm? are they different things or am i totally wrong here?
also if i cant get the euro hfm should i get the regular intake or would it be more beneficial preformance wise to go the euro way?with/without a chip?
M325M 03-17-2003, 03:17 AM Thanks to everyone who has confirmed!! You'll get your shipping quotes shortly. If you haven't confirmed yet...please do so asap. If you would like to be included in the GB or haven't received a confirmation email from me...please email me at shaodeee@yahoo.com or reply with your email address in this thread. I will send you the confirmation email!!
Cooltrav: You can only but the EURO HFM intake kit from PAR, not the EURO HFM itself. Without the EURO HFM, the EURO HFM intake kit from PAR will not fit. A regular intake is already very good modification that you can add to your car. A recent dyno sheet posted by PAR showed a 11 hp increase from stock. A pretty good bang for the buck mod I must say.
AznLum: Regarding your air temp sensor question ...Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the logistics of the M3 engine, perhaps some more knowledgable board members can help you out?
This is the description regarding the sound of the PAR intake I got from Mike@PAR.
Its got a distinct growl that is very aggressive. Its very pleasing and addicting to give it full throttle, just to hear the intake.
Thanks,

M325M 03-17-2003, 10:58 PM UPDATE
I have some bad news guys, due to the unexpected and overwhelming success of the group buy, PAR has decided to put a cap of 20 intakes for this group buy. I wished they told me about this before I started this GB, but it's hard to anticipate such an overwhelming demand. I was on the phone with them a few hours ago and it seems that this can't be avoided.
I will post the list of the first 20 people who confirmed and people on the wait list. I also have shipping quotes for the first 20 so I'll be send those out with payment information soon.
Again, I deeply apologzie for any inconvenience I caused anyone.
Here's the email that PAR has sent to me explaining the cap:
I apologize that we did not discuss this before, it seems that it is poor planning on my part. You have been doing a great job organizing this GB, and with the support of our current customers backing our product, it has been spectacular. I am sorry to say that we will have to cap the Group Buy at 20. The first 20 will have the opportunity to purchase, and anyone thereafter will get priority if anyone backs out.
I apologize if this inconveniences anyone. In the past we have been able to do 10 for a group buy which is great, and to see so many 20+ interested is even better. We are still working on ways to streamline our processes so that we may support a larger volume while maintaining cost. Please understand that we have gone through great lengths to offer the kit to you at this cost, and understand we are just small business getting under way. We are continually looking for ways to better our product and to make you, the end user satisfied.
If you have any concerns, please send us an email at par@san.rr.com.
M325M 03-17-2003, 11:21 PM Confirmation List
Please, if you are on the confirmed list and you are having second thoughts about purchasing the intake or would like to back out, please let me know so we can give the people on the wait list your spot. If you are on the list, please go through with your confirmation and send the payment when you receive the payment information email. Again, I apologize that we have to resort to this method of rationing the intakes, if you are on the wait list and would like your name removed, then please email me. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
These are the first 20 people who confirmed. I have removed the @blahblah.com for privacy reasons.

M325M 03-19-2003, 04:36 PM UPDATE
Thanks to everyone who has sent in their payments. The intakes will be shipped sometime early next week, PAR will provide you with a tracking # when your intake is shipped. Thanks for your patience and cooperation!
Ryan328i 03-19-2003, 05:38 PM Any chance of PAR agreeing to allow more into the GB once they get the first 20 settled. Even if it is a month or so? If not, how much do these usually go for?
Balthazarr 03-19-2003, 08:28 PM $175 if I remember correctly.:)
stupenal 03-19-2003, 09:08 PM Man, another case of rising average variable cost, thus decreasing mariginal revenue.
M325M 03-20-2003, 02:29 AM Balthazaar: Yes the price is $175...still the best priced intake system out on the market. :)
stupenal: Oh the irony! I just took my Econ final today and there was a question regarding cost curves. :D
Dragon3 03-20-2003, 11:25 AM $175?...price wise not bad, compared with the other offerings.
///MZG 03-20-2003, 11:32 AM I know this has sort of been asked, but any chance Par wants to up the price 10 bucks or so and go another round since there is so much interest?
How is the production on PAR intake on E46 2K any news?:dunno
lhoward 03-20-2003, 07:10 PM sending out payment tomarrow via over night :) damn snow storm has gotten me stuck inside since monday.
document 03-22-2003, 10:26 AM Somewhat off topic, but I might be interested in your e36 M3 compatible airbox (I think 328 is okay, maybe 325. Not 100% certain, though) if you got in on the group buy. Email me with offers.
RobertFontaine 03-23-2003, 02:51 PM I sent PAR a Canadian Postal Money order in the full amount in US Dollars. I received an email from PAR today saying that my money order had been received but the bank was sitting on it for 10 days. THIS IS A POSTAL MONEY ORDER not a Personal Cheque. Banks do not sit on them.
I might as well have sent a personal cheque and let them wait for that to clear rather than having coughed up the cash up front so that PAR could sit on my money.
Do I sound annoyed? I sent an email off to PAR to talk to their bank. But this is not my problem. They could go to another bank and just get the cash that I have already handed over.
Not impressed.

further to this PAR corrected this and decided to ship me the part within a couple of hours of my having lodged a complaint - I am satisified with their response.
M325M 03-23-2003, 03:07 PM robert: You're right...it's not your problem. I will email PAR and we will get this resolved asap. I apologize for this inconvenience and I'm sure it must have been a misunderstanding on PAR's part.
Hello Robert,
I am not sure why that did that for any reason. I will just go ahead and ship the kit as scheduled. I can just wait for them to process payment as they will. I apologize for the confusion. I have sent you and Jack a personal email.
Thanks for understanding.

PAR,
I sent you an email regarding the heatshield. Please respond ASAP.
Thank you.
Do the filters need to be oiled? I have had the kit on my car for about 2 months now. Also, how often should the filter be cleaned? I don't drive in dusty conditions, but I still want to keep the filter as clean as possible, so would cleaning it too often be bad for it?
RobertFontaine 03-23-2003, 10:12 PM PAR contacted me and has decided to ship the part within a couple of hours of my complaint. I am completely satisfied their response.

djpfine 03-24-2003, 04:19 AM will we be emailed tracking #s once our intakes have been shipped? if not, how do we know when they ship?
TIA

Good question. I'm assuming that these filters come pre-oiled...like K&N. If you need to clean / re-oil them...where do you get the equipment (oil) to do this? Will instructions come with the original kit on this?
Thanks,
Chris
To answer a few questions.
AznLum:
I will be doing an intial shipment today and will not have the tracking numbers available to you until this evening. I will send an email to each person whose kit has shipped today. The remainder will be shipped Tuesday the 25th, (Or when payment has been received).
NLR, stex, everyone:
The filters should be cleaned when they are dirty and dont have the pinkish color to them. Either that or you can do it preventatively around 10-15K. You can use the K&N filter cleaning kit and oil, or an equivalent found at your local Auto Parts or Performance shop. The instructions currently do not mention Filter care, but it is something we will include in the future.
Ryan328i
Our kits sell for $175+Actual shipping. This is still an exceptional value outside of the Group Purchase, still by far the best Value and as far as I am concerned, the best bang for your buck :buttrock
If you have any questions, send us an email at par@san.rr.com
Thanks,

stingray101 03-24-2003, 01:34 PM but decided to purchase the intake anyways since the price is good even at list!
well, got it last week and just put it on...Michael and Pete were very helpful and responsive...
it sounds nice and throaty, also adds a sweet kick ...
only drawback is that you feel obligated to drive hard now!!
anyhow, if you do not have an intake yet you should check this out for sure... it rocks...
DISCLAIMER: I do not have any affiliation with PAR, just a satisfied customer...
StickBoy 03-24-2003, 03:53 PM Do you guys have a website we can oder from or how can I go aobut ordering one. I can't get one right now at the moment but I am hoping to buy one around April and I would like to know where to go as soon as I can buy. Thanks in advance.
M325M 03-24-2003, 04:10 PM Stickboy: You can order a PAR intake by emailing PAR directly at par@san.rr.com...They'll answer any questions you may have about their intakes.
M325M 03-25-2003, 08:44 PM Update
Tracking #s should have been emailed to you guys from PAR if you were in the Monday shipment. There also should be a batch shipped out tommorow and Wednesday, so if you haven't got your tracking # yet, you'll get one from PAR when it is shipped out..
Please post pics/comments of the intake after you install it. Mine is scheduled to be here tommorow and I will install it and make all of you very jealous ;D, jkjk....
I've still gotten numerous amonuts of emails regarding interest in the group buy. Unfortunately, the group buy has reached its cap and it looks like everyone in the confirmed list has claimed an intake already. If you are on the wait list or want to purchase the intake kit at the low price of $175...then please email par@san.rr.com.
VOLSBimmer 03-26-2003, 03:02 AM Man this kit looks sweet! I remember when Silversled (this is PAR I'm assuming?) first came out with it a year or so ago.
I wish I would have known about it before I paid $180 for a used ECIS, oh well
PAR--how did you go about first starting off to make all these intakes? Is this something you do on the side, or a full-out business endeavor? (I'm basically interested how you got from making the first one to being able to do it on a mass scale, seems really cool to me that you were able to do it! :D )
Group Purchasers: All the kits that have been paid for, have been shipped, please check your email for Shipping/Tracking information. Any questions, you have our number.
VOLS:
Thanks for the compliments, That would be my brother, and he really deserves many kudos for doing a great job with the intial production, and building such an excellent customer base. I currently am working along side with Pete to get everything nailed down. Our larger production rates, just mean more labor for us, so we are working on getting our process streamlined so that we can have a better production time. Thanks Again!

Hey Volsbimmer, you can email me directly about this and I will tell you but it's a little, shall we say, confrontational so I really don't want to post about it here.

M325M 03-26-2003, 09:34 PM PAR INTAKE IS INSTALLED!!!
Today, after anxiously waiting for the UPS dude, my PAR intake kit finally came  . I ripped open the box and admist the countless shipping peanuts, I begin to pull out the intake kit. I admire each piece for their splendid worksmanship and quality....Even the installation instructions were top notch...they came in COLOR!! .
With the help of the detailed instructions, installation was a breeze and only took about 30 minutes. I stand back and admire the great fitment and look of the heatshield and filter. I then started the car with the hood still open and revved the engine to 4k rpm. The sound was intoxicating...a throaty growl that grew with intensity as the revs went higher :D.
Now the real test was taking her on the street. Unfortunately, I hit rush hour traffic and really didn't get a chance to open her up... I did notice however, that there was a good increase amount of power throughout each gear. The car no longer bogs when I'm starting from a stop in first and the car feels much more responsive. I can't wait to drive it some more!!!
I really have to take my hats off to PAR...they really have something good going on with their kits. PAR will be difficult to beat in price, quality, value, and customer service. Seriously, if you are thinking about purchasing an intake kit for your car...please do yourself and your car a favor by ordering from PAR.
Disclaimer: I'm not affilated with PAR in any way...and I'm in no way compensated for this review...this was inspired by PAR's great product and customer service.
StickBoy 03-27-2003, 01:30 AM It is post like this that make me very anxious to buy one. Soon enough soon enough.
Balthazarr 03-30-2003, 02:12 AM Will there be an update soon on the availability of these in another GB?
:az:
DonJuan 03-31-2003, 02:51 AM It's just an additional 25 bucks without the group buy...Even then I still think it's a good deal. You could wait another month or two but that's 10 extra HP's you won't have under your hood.

DonJuan,
I agree with you 100%. The original price is already pretty cheap to begin with. This GB has done an excellent job of getting the PAR name out in the BMW community.
vapor 03-31-2003, 04:09 AM I would gladly pay retail again, if I needed to get another PAR intake. The GB was a nice savings, but there is no need to wait for another GB to possibly come around....get yours now!!!
A happy PAR intake customer....
vapor
M325M 03-31-2003, 04:52 AM The GB officially ends today...however it pretty much ended 2 weeks ago with the cap being filled at 20 buyers. This has been a wildly successful GB...with much more interest and support than PAR and I anticipated.
I just wanted to say thanks to Mike and Pete @ PAR for being very prompt and patient as I bombarded them with emails regarding the GB. I also would like to says thanks to everyone who participated in the GB...whether you were on the confirmed list or on the wait list...I would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation. Also a big thanks to everyone who supported the PAR product...especially members like NLR/Vapor/Stingray/others who put in a good word for the product.
If you have anymore questions about PAR's products or would like to order an intake please email PAR directly at par@san.rr.com. Thanks again everyone!

I would also like to thank our supportive customer base. We aren't very big at all, but with the praise and success of this all, we feel it. Thanks to all those who participated for their support and patience through this GB. We are continually striving to ensure that our customers are satisfied with our service, as well as our products. If anyone has any questions, please send us an email with questions, thoughts, or suggestions.
