Has anyone ever swapped or knows what it would take to swap an E39 540 engine into a 528 E39? I'm thinking about doing this as I have access to a few good deals on engine/tranny combos. I currently have the inline 6 with an auto tranny. I am looking to swap it out for a v8 6er. What would be involved in doing this?

Dude your in for a world of pain and aggravation. There are a shit load of differences between 6cyl and 8 cyl E39's. Front sub-frame is steel on a V8 and aluminium on a 6. Steering box on an 8, rack on a 6, different gears in the diff, bigger hubs and brakes on the 8, the list goes on and on. Not to mention the wiring nightmare you'll encounter. Just buy a 540!
