Hey so I got a 2004 M3 with SMG about 4 months ago and I love every bit of the car except for the SMG part. Im dying to get one with stick. I was wondering if there was any way to buy a standard trans for the car and just swapp it in and then add a clutch pedal. Is this possible? Any one know how much I would have to spend if I tried to do it? What about the electronics? Please help!

That was a big investment into something you don't like.
I agree...before hacking up the car and possibly ruining the value...why not just sell or trade for what you want?

cars are too valuable right now to do that... sell it and get what you want.

have you put it on craigslist? that or ebay would probably be your best bet for selling it.

It wont let me put the link in the message for some reason. Any way if you go to cars.com and look for an 2004 M3 in the 93449 zipcode area you will find me. Ill try and find a way to put a link in the mean time.
Just to weigh in on a technical point -- your SMG car HAS a standard 6 speed MT. SMG is not a different transmission or clutch. It is simply a hydralic system to change gears and actuate the clutch. It is really nothing more than super fancy linkage (don't get me wrong, I LOVE my SMG). THat is why the SMG system is basically a pretty reliable system--it uses the proven BMW 6 speed tranny.
That being said, if you want manual, then get a different car. Putting in a clutch pedal/master cylindar, changing the linkage, etc. is not worth the hassle.

There have been a few CSLs converted to manual, but for a regular M3 I would suggest trading for a manual version instead. It will be a lot cheaper that way.
