I've got it sitting in my living room - its the one for the M3, but fits on our cars. I'm debating. Instaling it apparently leaves a vacuum hose disconnected. I'm not that worried about it if it doesn't cause problems but does anyone else on here have it installed and can give me some feedback??? thanks.

ooooooh boy. do a search.

Yeah, I did search. I know about all of the long threads going back and forth about them developing one specifically for our cars, dyno sheet blah blah blah.

Those threads don't answer my question. From what I've read on here, at least one person has the M3 intake on an MZ4, but hasn't given any feedback from what I've found.

My question is whether anyone has any feedback from the M3 intake on the MZ4 - not whether Injen might be coming out with one for the MZ4 sometime in the future....

So, does anyone on here have the M3 Injen intake on an MZ4 and have any feedback? Thanks

Well, I went ahead and installed it. Can't really tell if there is any performance gain - feels like maybe a slight one. But...the sound is incredible at high rpms. It sounds better than than the GruppeM I had on my 330. Probably just the difference between engines though.

Anyway, my review, based on one drive, it sounds great. Might add a little HP, but not enough to justify it on its own - you're paying for the sound, which in my opinion is worth it.

If I have any problems with the vacuum tube you don't reconnect or anything else I'll post it up.

How was fitment? Can you take a pic or two?
TIA

I've had mine installed for a bit now , run about 4,xxx miles through it. Its fine, no check engine lights, the vacuum hose is exposed but there is a way to reconnect it to the intake manifold, look carefully and you will find an open port on the OEM intake manifold. The probelm is the hose wont reach without an extension. also the heater solenoid valve that sits under the intake pipe has very little clearance, I placed some insulation material (rubber) between the two.

I retrofitted my own heat shield as I couldn't wait for Injen to recreate their 5lb steel heat shield.

My next comments are my own opinion based solely on my vehicle setup and its own experienced conditions:

The mid range power feels different, I can't say for sure if it is more or less power but it sounds a lot louder....which to me means actually I'm losing power but the resonance and the sound make the experience feel as though it is making more power.

During high heat days, 80deg+ , I am definitely losing horses, and you can feel this as you modulate the accelerator pedal.

Above ~6K it really starts to pick up and there is an audible change in the note.

All in all, it makes my driving experience more enjoyable. I may make a bit more power in the mid /upper range, but at the same time I may be losing power in other areas of the power band; but its nothing that drastically changes the behavior of the car.

i agree that is has to mainly be for sound, if there truly was a performance increase to be made, i am sure one of the bmw tuners, specifically dinan (despite how much i dislike them) probably would have made something by now and also stated some outlandish claims as well, so i honestly doubt there is any real power to be had with this part of the car as bmw has really been known recently to have quite efficient intake boxes, specifically on the s54

my question is: can we retrofit the k&n intake that people use on the m3 that people claim they get so much power out of???? the type 63 or whatever the hell it was called??? bc that i would probably give a try

How did you extend the vacuum tube??

How did you extend the vacuum tube??

Well you'll have to get the same diameter tubing, ID and OD and material should be the same, (just find some high durometer rubber/high heat capable tubing thats stiff enough so it won't collapse under the vacuum pressure) I'd stick with the same geometry as OEM so the connector will fit seamlessly.

Then get the connector off the old short pipe and place it on the new longer pipe that reaches the port on the intake manifold, replace the shorter pipe with this new longer tube with connector. Once extended the connector should just snap on to the port in the same manner as it did to the original intake setup.

I have seen people also use a breather filter as well just to make sure nothing gets into the system through the vacuum tube.

I lost 9HP using that intake on my last M3.

Do a search on the m3forum and you'll find plenty of discussions about this. Roman is merely one of the many who experienced loss of HP with the Injen CAI.

Now that I have the exhaust sense this seems to be the case I want to re dyno my car with the stock intake and the injen intake and see if the results are still a power gain

i thought the k&n has been proven a number of times to make more power...

I was there watching the whole time when they installed the K&N intake system I gained a max hp of aprox 6 with the KN system installed...
