On my '07 with Zenon, the inside lights (closest to grills) don't light up at all. they only give light to the angel eyes.
Is this normal?
thanks in advance!

View Full Version : head light Question... firegabe 09-06-2007, 11:59 AM On my '07 with Zenon, the inside lights (closest to grills) don't light up at all. they only give light to the angel eyes. Is this normal? thanks in advance! Gabe GoodguyFly 09-06-2007, 01:39 PM Those are usually high beams. I am not quite sure on the Z4's though. BlackSapphireZ 09-06-2007, 05:40 PM you have bi XENON's not zenons inner beam works as "flash 2 pass" your regular low beam works as high beam as well. when engaged, motor removes the shade inside of the headlight making it a "high beam" Zulu 09-06-2007, 09:03 PM actually.... the MZ does not have the flash to pass on the inside lights.... in fact the inside lights aren't even lights at all, they are just dummy lens that have no function other than they look pretty.... and you are correct in that the angel eyes do light up on the inner lights.... other than that they have no function, the low and high beams are both from the same light... the outer one. sounds crazy but it is true. BimmerZealot 09-07-2007, 01:46 AM Zulu is correct, I have taken apart the headlights and seen that it only houses the angel eye bulb. The flash2pass is in fact HID flash which makes no sense but BMW designed it this way. rey 09-07-2007, 11:08 AM Do I understand this correctly - the inner lights are not true Xenon lights even though the lens apears to be Xenon? If this is so, what kind of bulb powers the inner lights? What is an "agel eye" bulb? Has anyone tried to make the inner lights a fully functioning Xenon on high beam? anpmech 09-07-2007, 11:22 AM The angel eyes are just for looks, I don't think they even qualify for daytime running lights. They are not bright enough, they do look cool though IMO. There are kits around where you can make them brighter I think but I have not heard of anyone modding that dummy light into a real one. Look at BimmerZealot (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=127413) http://images.bimmerforums.com/vb3images/statusicon/user_offline.gif car above. The inner lights (angle eyes) are on but you can't hardly see them. Thats all they do, the outer lights are the real ones, high and low beams. rey 09-07-2007, 11:51 AM Next question: Has anyone coverted the inner lights to true Xenons which work on high beams? BimmerZealot 09-07-2007, 01:46 PM No because your low beam headlights if you have bi-xenon do that when you turn on your high beams. Hence Bi-Xenon (Low/High) there is a slide in the projector that opens when you flick on high beams so you get full illumination out of the projector without the cutoff. I have not seen an angel eye upgrade, I'll be the first one to buy it when it does come out though, the OEM ones are a joke they are barely bright at night, nothing compared to the E90/E92 ones that are obvious even during the day. There is no such thing as a "xenon" glass lens. There are a lot of lighting terms being thrown around, basically xenon = HID (high intensity discharge) it is a type of bulb versus halogen bulbs that produces much brighter, whiter light. If you have the XENON option on your car then you have HID headlights. An angel eye bulb is a bulb that sits inside the inner projector and basically lights up the reflective plastic ring that surrounds the inner projector. It's a simple peanut sized halogen bulb that illuminates the ring. Kind of like a very low quality CCFL replica. rey 09-07-2007, 10:10 PM O.K. I get it now. BMW has decided that we don't "need" four Xenon lights, but that the appearance of four Xenon lights looks better than two. Next question directed to our European couterparts - do you get four real Xenon lights or do you get two and two fakes? If the answer is yes, than I can then figure out a relatively easy way to install Euro lights in my 'merican BMW. |
