View Full Version : WGI Club Race
m332is 09-05-2007, 11:24 PM We are getting close to 50 racers for WGI and we can easily handle 25 more! Remember, the price goes up at the end of this week, so sign up today. Based on the trending of the numbers, we are looking at renting an add'l hour of track time to give us more time on track for qualifying and the sprint.
Thanks to Diffsonline, Bavarian Specialties and UUC Motorwerks for helping GVC put this race on the schedule. Without them, it would be a DE weekend only!
The schedule is going to be similar to last year:
Fri - extra cost practice (around 6 hrs of lapping with the instructors under DE rules)
Fri end of day practice starts 20-35 minutes (open to all racers even if you did not pay to lap on Fri)
Fri is required for all rookies and racers that have not been to the Glen
Sat:
Practice session
Qualifying
Sprint (feature race)**
**I was thinking maybe 40-45 minutes for the sprint if we can rent extra track time. Or maybe an extra practice or qualifying session.
Sun:
Qualifying race (grid based on sprint result)
Enduro 60 minutes
Just like last year, your fastest lap in the Sunday qualifying race will set the enduro grid. If you want to save your motor and your best slick for the enduro then turn a lap and head back to the trailer. If not run the entire sprint and have fun. Since fast lap counts, not the finishing order you can probably practice a driver change (make sure T&S knows!!!).

AndrewBall 09-05-2007, 11:52 PM Ill do it...
oh wait no i wont. :shifty
Les Davis 09-06-2007, 08:33 AM I will be doing the race school the Tues, Weds, Thurs before that race weekend with the hopes of getting into the races. I can't sign up now as I don't have my race license yet. I have already done WGI for four days and will have two additional days with the race school so I am not planning on doing the Friday event. Saving the car for the races. Question= Do I need a passanger side seat for the race school. If I don't do Friday, then I won't need a passanger side seat for the GVC event, right.
m332is 09-06-2007, 08:44 AM You do not need a passenger seat for the race school or for Fri.
The Fri lapping rule for rookies and those new to WGI is the Comp Steward's rule (Stan Parker) not a GVC rule. You need to clear it with him if you do not plan to lap on Fri. Stan has not waived it too quickly in the past
Also the race school is Wed Thurs (not Tues) and four days at WGI is not a lot.

///M3Matt 09-06-2007, 09:12 AM we are hoping to have 2 cars there *fingers crossed*
philsans5 09-06-2007, 01:40 PM My new car should be ready, will be bringing 3 cars. One still hasn't signed up.

Crap, now I have to watch for revenge from three targets!!! :)
I also saw Greg Read is now signed up for WGI vs Ofest... cool!

philsans5 09-06-2007, 05:41 PM O fest isn't drawing a huge crowd. Glen is badass and the northeast is a huge community by comparison. I can't afford to hit you Vince, this new car has wiped me (and my bank account) out!
Gread 09-06-2007, 06:34 PM My plans for O'fest fell through which isn't too bad because WGI is one of my favorite tracks. Taking the wifey (with no kids attached) to the Glen in Sept. beats driving in a car hauler to steamy Texas and I get a fantastic track thrown in as a "consolation" prize. I'm liking this back-up plan. The entrant list looks like a great group as usual.
Phil, you should have used your dough to buy my car...

Look for my red #91 Matt. I won't be racing but I'll be there, in the garages.

mijgilbert 09-06-2007, 10:37 PM Might actually get 5-6 Spec E36's there! Right now it's Tim Smith, Les Davis, Robert Mau and me... Hoping for one or two more...

I didn't spend THAT much Greg! I would buy your car in a heartbeat and sleep in it every night.
TIATO 09-07-2007, 08:53 AM Im not racing, I'll be there for the DE side of things for the 3 days, but am voulenteering my weight for temporary right side ballasting or weight distribution purposes.:D

:eyecrazy
Many :eyecrazy:eyecrazy:eyecrazy indeed! Hittin the strip club sat nite, close to 15 of us already and I've barely told anyone!
And Steve, not 100% sure on camping but Akard, myself and a few others have slept there before. I don't think they will let you in past 10 though. Even though I went in at close to midnight earlier this season..
m332is 09-07-2007, 06:33 PM Hi Steve,
I think they will allow you to camp, but they lock the gate at 9 or 10 PM and you can't get in or out. As far as I know, I don't think there are any showers at the track... please bring lots of deodorant :D
Vince
philsans5 09-08-2007, 02:21 PM New car shipped from Cali yesterday!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!!
mpassioned 09-08-2007, 04:04 PM Signed Up!! Going to WGI!! First timer, looking to camp. but willing to share a room if anyone is up for that. I don't snore either. I saw they might not have showers at the track, so if someone wants to share a room, please pm me.
Thanks,
Dave Hill
ncoker 09-09-2007, 01:17 AM I will also be doing the race school and hopefully my first race at the Glen. With a severely underpowered e30 D-mod car, I will at best attempt to harras S36 and JS cars!

diffsonline 09-09-2007, 02:02 AM This will be the first race Phil loses to the soooooooper z3!

Maybe we can put you guys with the group 1 students so you can pass some people! (stab at Mike only)
I have my money on Fred F!
philsans5 09-09-2007, 10:59 AM Don't pressure yourself so much Dan, you'll end up with another dead car in a wall...
diffsonline 09-09-2007, 11:57 AM oh Phil. At least I haven't crashed...
I was just pulled over to watch the show.
when the track turns...don't keep going straight. It isn't a shortcut

Yea Dan I guess you spinning out and side swiping a Spec E36 drivers door isn't an accident!!!!!!:lol
Dam Mini Coopers!!!
I have my money on ME. I cant wait to race with FAst Freddy. All that I hear is HE IS FAST..
Tim

Maybe we should schedule the races for 1 lap so you would actually see what a checkered flag looks like? :lol
I have my money on Fred F!
I have my money on povo and fred taking each other out, and tim taking the checker backwards on his roof FTW :alright
philsans5 09-09-2007, 02:41 PM Mad crap talking already!! I love it!
Les Davis 09-10-2007, 08:58 AM I will be at WGI for the weekend races. I have two Toyo 275/35/zr18's sticker tires left over from my e46 M3 track car. Never mounted. Stored in climate controled condition. I want $250 each delivered to WGI. I will be at WGI Tuesday night for race school and will be there all week and weekend. The current price for this tire is $307 plus shipping. These are a good deal. Let me know if you can use them.
clopez95m3 09-10-2007, 09:33 AM Mad crap talking already!! I love it!
I saw the entry list for the Glen and that's gonna be one hell of a race. Interested to see what Fast Freddie will do in a SE36 car, Mike Boekdrukker is signed up (DM) and if he can figure out the Glen like he has Mosport then watch out. I wonder if anyone will have anything for Stickley. I hope you guys post lots of video of all the action, I hate missing out on this one.
Carlos.
m332is 09-10-2007, 04:26 PM Fellow racers,
Wow, I just looked on-line and saw 62 racers signed up (a few are co drivers or forgot to list a car) and we expect to graduate a couple rookie racers from the Boston CR school earlier that week. You guys rock!
I was worried about competing with Ofest, but I guess my fears were unfounded. THANK YOU!!! :redspot
If you are thinking about doing the race, you better sign up (and get your money/paperwork in) now as we will most likely cut off registration at 75 cars.
Thanks to the Genessee Valley Chapter, Diffsonline, UUC Motorwerks and Bavarian Specialties for their local support.
Vince
m332is 09-12-2007, 10:02 AM 67 racers signed up and 61 cars so far...
some very large class fields including:
CM 12 cars
DM 6 cars
IP 7 cars
JP 9 cars
IS 3 cars
JS 7 cars
KP 6 cars
SE36 3 cars
Still room for more! We don't want to hand EM to Ross Karlin or HS to Steve Mertz without battles so sign up today!
Vince
T Smith 09-12-2007, 10:15 AM I'm looking forward to racing in Spec E36 here. Finally someone to race.
Sign up Spec E36 racers!!!!!!
mijgilbert 09-12-2007, 03:14 PM There's at least two more, Les Davis and Robert Mau who have not yet signed up. I believe that Les is taking the school - not sure why Robert isn't signed up yet...
diffsonline 09-12-2007, 03:36 PM There's at least two more people who will be passing me in my SE36, Les Davis and Robert Mau who have not yet signed up. I believe that Les is taking the school - not sure why Robert isn't signed up yet...
ahh now I see what you meant
philsans5 09-12-2007, 05:09 PM Looks like 2 less Spec E36s. Freddy is going to run his j stocker cuz of the wheel/ diff thing and Povo was never 100% anyways.
T Smith 09-12-2007, 05:18 PM That is crap!! Wheel Diff bla bla bla!!! Freddy is afraid af how fast Mike and I are. Well at least how fast I am. LOL
mijgilbert 09-12-2007, 08:42 PM Still 4 Spec E36's even if Fred F doesn't chicken out... He has the 3.15 diff in there anyway so diff has nothing to do with it!
Just like when I got into IP and suddenly Spragg wasn't into racing anymore... Ho hum.
Les Davis 09-12-2007, 10:34 PM Just got the word that I can now sign up for the races. Count me in if I pass race school.
Les
philsans5 09-13-2007, 07:35 AM LOL! Fred afraid of people? Yeah, that's it. He's got a built 3.91 in there, counted it when I had it. He's pissed about buying 3 sets of new wheels and tires. I don't blame him. I think he should run and beat you guys with the dinky wheels...
philsans5 09-13-2007, 07:37 AM Just like when I got into IP and suddenly Spragg wasn't into racing anymore... Ho hum.
Who can blame him? We didn't know much about you other than you were the rookie that put his car in a wall in a lap... EVERYBODY was scared to race near you.
Uh Mike, even after piston gate, YOU bolted from I/P because you were getting your butt kicked by several guys. Had to go someplace with little competition to buy a Championship, eh?? Now you're getting beat by K/P guys.

m332is 09-13-2007, 10:04 AM Guys,
I am trying to keep this thread on getting cars to WGI and the place to link info update (like the schedule when I get it). If you want to have girlie fights, measure your dicks or piss in each other Wheaties, please start a new thread.
Every once in a while I like to be the one that is holier than Thou :)

Thanks for the reminder of who you are James... I thought that bygones were bygones but it's OK if you want to live in the past.:rolleyes
FYI - the "witty banter" you saw above by me, Tim and Phil about folks like Fred and Spragg are all between FRIENDS. We all hang out here and enjoy racing together, and are doing a bit of fun teasing. I'm not saying anything I didn't just say to Dave's face last Saturday night at Peter's house... Don't worry - I'm just fine with getting beaten by KP or JS guys - I'm just working as hard as I can to not get beaten by other Spec E36 guys!
Oh, and there are about 20 Spec E36 cars getting built and 5 Spec E36's at the Glen this month so there should be more competition soon enough!! :redspot

Just don't hit anyones new car ok?
ydubbs4 09-13-2007, 10:17 AM I was thinking about volunteering at the club race, given that I wanted to see what should be some fantastic racing, but now that I can volunteer for the race as a bouncer, so I can kick some skinny little Sansossio and Gilbert ass while I am at it, count me in!
Will
mijgilbert 09-13-2007, 11:30 AM Cool Will - call Vince to find out where volunteers are needed. I know tech and T&S always need help...
m332is 09-13-2007, 11:37 AM If you want to help, we'd love to have you... T&S, grid, pit lane are a few of the needs. Please find me on Fri and I will get you to the right people.
I wll have headqtrs be my trailer area... if all goes well, I will have the white and blue e36 M3 #997 CM. Black Chevy dullie and 44 ft white gooneneck.
Vince
ydubbs4 09-13-2007, 01:11 PM No worries Vince. I will be there on Wednesday/Thursday as I am the registrar for the race school, so I am sure we will meet before Friday. I worked the Tremblant race as well...i was the guy running around in the yellow Schroth Racing golf shirt all weekend.
Cheers,
Will

Is it true you won't be wearing a shirt this time??:ky
Vince, you're carless as of now? Jeeeeez, how hard did you hit me?! I'm still carless too. Guess we can have an early race and see who gets a car together first!
And Mike, no need to measure. I win.:stickoutt
m332is 09-13-2007, 03:32 PM Actually my body guy promised it for tomorrow so I can get it to my mechanic to nut and bolt check the car and find the loose steering issue. My body guy was busy with street car projects and he fit me in around his other scheduled projects.
The front fender work came out different than I expected so I don't know if I have the clearance for my rains to work correctly.
And I seem to have sprung a leak in my oil cooler... which is on its way.
On the good news front, I have a set of new sticker Dunlop slicks for the dry.
Hope its dry all weekend!
Vince
philsans5 09-13-2007, 05:18 PM I might be seeing my new car tomorrow... Oh god pleeze. New slicks?? Can I have your old ones? Going to be trying out Dunlops I got from Read. I'll need some help on those!
