Are you talking about the angel eyes? The lighted rings are called angel eyes.

I'm talking about the purplish "set of lips" turned sideways on the outer clear housing. Obviously they're from the projectors, but they don't seem to match the pattern that hits the wall from the projectors.

It's really not anything i care about, i just have too much time on my hands and i's wonderin...

he is talking about the reflection of the light as it passes through the headlight lens. it makes a pattern that looks like a set of 'lips' on the surface of the headlight.

Your headlights are de-lensed. They're missing an extra low beam lens that sits just in front of the projector. Without it the lights look better, but it fucks up the beam pattern and make those circles like you're describing.
