I can get the 280/640 for ~200 per tire new, so was thinking about trying a set. I've been running R6s for a while. A set lasts me about 3 HPDE days. What should I expect from the GTs?

You have to scrub them in and let them sit overnight. If not, they wear out quicker. Also, Hoosier is not going to be the tire supplier for Rolex after Miller (it's going to Pirelli). So, I doubt they will keep making the Rolex tires much longer. philsans5 09-05-2007, 01:28 PM Weight sucks huh?? I'm about 1000 lbs lighter than a rolex car and make less power. Just start to get them up to temp by the end of a sprint race. tynashracing 09-05-2007, 01:57 PM I've got some Rolex GT's as well. What hot pressures are you guys shooting for? Also, I've not found the tread compound rating. I'm assuming they're on the hard side (60's). Anyone know for sure? Also, how does that compare with the R6's? jacy 09-05-2007, 02:24 PM For our car, we go through a set in about 1.5hrs. You have to scrub them in and let them sit overnight. Interesting thanks for the data guys. Sounds like they will not last as long as a set of RA1s or NT01s, may not even last as long as the R6, and are not a sticky as R6s. Not sounding like a great tire on a 3600lb car. MCain 09-06-2007, 09:10 AM Jacy, I've been pretty happy with the NT-01's I bought for practice/DE tires. Not quite the grip of the Hoosier, but last a lot longer and don't seem to heat cycle too badly. jacy 09-06-2007, 12:58 PM Jacy, I've been pretty happy with the NT-01's I bought for practice/DE tires. The 2007 Hoosiers are different than the ones we used in 2006 (same compound as the GAC tires). Some setup things have changed. tynashracing 09-06-2007, 02:26 PM I shoot for 34 to 36 hot. The 2007 Hoosiers are different than the ones we used in 2006 (same compound as the GAC tires). Some setup things have changed. I made the mistake of using cold temp pressures that are comparable to other slicks. Not good. Thanks for that bit of info. philsans5 09-06-2007, 05:39 PM Ken, I've been starting mine at 28 and they come in at 36 after a sprint. Using air, not nitrogen. ninekrpm 09-06-2007, 05:50 PM Jacy, I've been pretty happy with the NT-01's I bought for practice/DE tires. What do you try to maintain hot? tynashracing 09-06-2007, 06:30 PM Ken, I've been starting mine at 28 and they come in at 36 after a sprint. Using air, not nitrogen. Awesome, thanks Phil. I'm giving them another shot at Road Atlanta in a couple of weeks. This should help a lot. philsans5 09-07-2007, 07:54 AM Your last lap will probably be your fastest. I've learnt to start like a madman, maintain till 10 laps to go, and then they are ready to rock! It's gotten me a podium at every event the car has finished and my tires are the same ones from when I met you at VIR. tynashracing 09-07-2007, 02:16 PM Your last lap will probably be your fastest. So, maybe I will get them up to temp a little faster. I'm running the 245/645/18. Not sure if you're running the wider tire since you've got a wide body, right!? Either way, thanks for sharing your experience. My last attempt to run them was at VIR when you were there. I started out at 25lbs cold. I thought I was ice skating. Since it's a tall tire...are the sidewalls just weak compared to other slicks? I guess it doesn't matter, just trying to understand what makes these things tick.:eyecrazy OT...I really wish there'd been a bigger gap between the WGI and RA. I'd love to get back to WGI. By the same token, it's likely some of the northeast guys could've made the trek down to RA. Anyways, y'all have fun!:buttrock philsans5 09-07-2007, 05:28 PM I totaled my car at Tremblant (steering linkage broke) otherwise I was going to do Mosport and RA. And toy with the idea of texas. I bought Holders old E36 and it just shipped today so I've got my work cut out for me to make the Glen. Bare shell!:eyecrazy My size is 280 640 18, so yeah, I BEAT the snot out of them to get them up to temp but the slide is fun till they get hot! jacy 10-08-2007, 04:21 PM OK - related question for folks in the know on sticky tires. A bunch of Dunlop and Pirelli GT racing tire scrubs in the 280/640(or 50) size have popped up. Anyone know anything about what these are? I've found that the size is a good giveaway of the series, so my assumption is that these are from world challenge, rolex, or alms. Very very cheap and I'm willing to experiment. I may just go with hoho scrubs, but figured I'd branch out. My NT-01s were a little disappointing. It's not a very responsive tire. Grips well, good temp range, but very little feedback. GOTX 10-08-2007, 04:25 PM World Challenge only uses RA1's. Dunlop & Pirelli slicks are from ALMS, in my opinion. Discontinueds, so they were cheap. Try Turner. philsans5 10-16-2007, 05:23 PM ie, not as fast? not as sticky? I'm not getting passed in the corners, but I would be faster on real slicks. They are an endurance tire in a light mod car. I'm not running stiff enough springs to get slicks to work right, I'm at 650-750 (f/r) and most people I know on slicks are in the 1200 range. I liked these in case I go back to r comps.
