I need to get this replaced but I have no idea where to purchase this item. I read on X5 world that there is a repair kit, but did not see a link to a website that sells it. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance
You can get it from bmaparts.com or pelicanparts.com. I got mine at the dealer since I wanted to make sure I have all the parts including the grease. The CV boot replacement is kinda of a PITA and not easy if you do not have power tools.

Too bad you aren't local. I'd help you out. You can buy the CV boot at the dealer if you want to DIY. It comes with the clamps, clip, and grease, like BJO said. Check the other side for cracking too. Usually when one goes, the other isn't far behind.

Anyone have a feel for the normal replacement time for front CV boots on an X5 3.0i? I am seeing leaks in both front boots after some service and wonder if that is related, or just coincidental. Just under 60k and 4 1/2years old with no off road.
What can I expect this to cost as I am not equipped or patient enough to try it myself?

Generally around 50-60k miles is when I see them start to tear, so your mileage sounds about right.
At the dealership I work at, the cost is about $650 for one outer CV boot to be replaced. It isn't a cheap repair.

Thanks Kellie, that is what I was expecting to hear.
