David325e 09-04-2007, 04:17 PM I've done it twice. Never on an e34. But a few times on a black e30. samanthugg 09-04-2007, 04:24 PM i've never tried it on mine, but i tried it on my dad's car and looked really cloudy and stuff PScalfano 09-04-2007, 05:01 PM Try this link http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-clay.html forsaken 09-04-2007, 05:27 PM yeah, i think pinnacle and meguiars make a video that will show you with step by step instructions.... I do believe the meguiars one is like $5... good luck. Dark Schnitzer 09-04-2007, 07:02 PM Sam....I'm think you've only missed a step regarding the finish on your dads car. The paint needs to be well POLISHED after the claying.Polished....NOT waxed. Wax comes AFTER the polishing. The polishing is where the clarity of the paint comes from. If your into "hand jobbing it"......you can use 3M's "Finesse it II". Its a white semi -liquid that will polish the paint clear....crystal.This polish works its' very best with a variable speed buffer/polisher like made by Milwaukee tools .....or even one of the Orbital polisher/Waxers readily available online or at your fav. paint house. Hand rubbing the car will wear you out....but you'll love the end result.:alright Cheers,Vinny samanthugg 09-04-2007, 10:19 PM Sam....I'm think you've only missed a step regarding the finish on your dads car. You should plan on going to the Chicago e34 meet next year. Maybe I'll see you there forsaken 09-04-2007, 10:47 PM Wtf is in Indiana? Come to California where all the gangsta e34's are. MacR 09-04-2007, 10:51 PM Wtf is in Indiana? Come to California where all the gangsta e34's are. Yeah, and pollution, and homos, and ... gangstas. no offense to anyone :stickoutt forsaken 09-04-2007, 10:54 PM haha, don't knock it til you try it! I wake up everyday with blue skies, no snowstorms, plenty of places to go, and an e34 around every corner... oh and the standard of living is higher too. 5mall5nail5 09-04-2007, 11:13 PM Sam one thing worth mentioning is that black tends to be a bitch to clay. You have to be real careful and turn/fold the clay - you will feel it rough as you slide it around on the body panel, and it will gradually become more "smooth" feeling (hard to explain but you'll know it when it happens) as you remove the contaminants from the surface. Problem is, those deposits are now embedded in the clay you're sliding on your paint. Dark cars, especially black, can sure have nasty swirls from claying improperly. Just be careful and fold/turn the clay often and keep the panel you're working on saturated with quick detail spray (you will need a ton of this stuff) 5mall5nail5 09-04-2007, 11:14 PM Wtf is in Indiana? Come to California where all the gangsta e34's are. Dude PA E34s roast CA E34s every day of the week. Shit, I will put mine up against the entire state of CA :) MacR 09-04-2007, 11:14 PM Yeah, might as well buy two bottles of that quik detail Dude PA E34s roast CA E34s every day of the week. Shit, I will put mine up against the entire state of CA :) CA cars = All show. :D samanthugg 09-04-2007, 11:40 PM Sam one thing worth mentioning is that black tends to be a bitch to clay. Really depends on how much shit is on the paint - I recently did my sisters black 530 and it took me about 3 hrs to clay it. The pain of it is, you wash the car, dry the car, clay it (makes it real dirty again) then you wash it and dry it, then polish it, then wax it. It's an all day or 2 day event. 5mall5nail5 09-04-2007, 11:44 PM Yeah, might as well buy two bottles of that quik detail CA cars = All show. :D Gotta have the show 'n go! samanthugg 09-04-2007, 11:45 PM Really depends on how much shit is on the paint - I recently did my sisters black 530 and it took me about 3 hrs to clay it. The pain of it is, you wash the car, dry the car, clay it (makes it real dirty again) then you wash it and dry it, then polish it, then wax it. It's an all day or 2 day event. oh wow, but it's worth it? 5mall5nail5 09-04-2007, 11:47 PM oh wow, but it's worth it? Yeah typically it is - if you know your father hasn't done it in a long while (at all) you should do it. You know how smooth the paint feels after waxing it? Well, with claying, polishing, then waxing, it feels like glass. Except for the scrape your asshole friend put in the finish :) samanthugg 09-04-2007, 11:52 PM haha yeah, he's never done it. but i think i could probably handle it...and that scrape is nothing compared to where someone keyed "samthug" in the roof... 5mall5nail5 09-04-2007, 11:53 PM sam basically all you do is: 1) go back and forth (not circles) - circles will put swirls in black paint 2) keep panel saturated with quick detail spray (seriously by like 3 bottles, maybe 4 depending on how crazy you are) 3) apply hardly any pressure at all 4) hose down thoroughly afterward and then give it a second good wash After that you can prep it how you like - I use mothers 3 stage shit becuase its cheap and it works really really well. You can go to pep boys and grab it, they have bottles marked 1 - 3. I have some expensive shit (zaino/klasse/p21s/etc) but honestly the result with mothers kit is just as good and cheaper, as well as super easy to apply and take off. g'luck. bed time, work @ 630, poo! let us know how it turns out samanthugg 09-05-2007, 12:01 AM perhaps that will be my weekend project.. if it does happen i'll let everyone know how it turns out! TechnoM3Girl 09-05-2007, 12:26 AM i REALLY need to do this to my car too. :( |
