I've been reading all your threads for a few weeks, trying to get a feel for the E34. I've yet to buy one, but I'm in the market and still shopping

Anyway, just thought I'd say hello and suggest that somebody buy this ...

Taker - blinkE34

BMW-5-Series-turbo-m5-e34-1989-BMW-535i-Dinan-Turbo-5-Speed-Manual-1-of-5-built

on ebay (in Ohio)

Sorry - I can't post links yet ...

Evil stalker tone: "Hello E34 forum.... You dont know me, but I know you. Ive been watching you for quite some time now.... You live a meaningless life; wasting away on the forums while you could be saving children in Africa. Lets play a little game..."

Lol, I feel all stalkered.

Welcome though. These are great cars if you can deal with the initial maintenance.

lol; it's so true. The good thing about my addiction is that I'm only ever on this forum while I'm at work, so It's not my time I'm wasting :D

Haha - Not like that at all ...

Just felt it was time to make myself known around here given how close I am to a purchase - It's getting frustrating not being able to find a 5 speed example.

Likewise, there was alot to read and I didn't wanna come off as a total noob in future threads if you know what I mean.

I'm well aware of the maintenance issues - Not really looking forward to it

I drove an 89 525 - Beautiful body - Shoddy mechanicals :(

I know, I was just making a funny. I know how you feel about not finding a standard. I looked for A YEAR for a 540i/6 and had to settle with 540iA. But, of coarse, that was before I knew about this forum where theres one up for sale every month or so. HEY!!! Buy Antriebs!!!! Thats a badass ride!!!

no records=bad idea.

If you are still stuck on this whip, take it to a local indy and have a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done. I would imply that you would want them to the work, so they will look in every nook and cranny to find anything thats wrong.

You've got two choices.

Either wait until you find what you want which may take a while
or dump a load of cash into a car making it what you want.

^ hmmm ,,, ^^

ya that's it - finding the right car is key

I'm even looking at a Benz ... They're uglier and I don't really want one but pickings here are scarce and I don't want an E39

Haha I love the comprably aged Benz, but theres more german and more $$ involved in repairs. IMHO that price seems high for high miles and no records. The interior and the paint are in good shape. But, the rust on the license plate bracket says trojan horse of doom. Def. have a PPI done involving inspecting it while on a lift. If the car is in solid shape, then I've seen worse than 3900. 5-speed makes those miles seem some less.

remember. manage your money! lol. these cars are a pain in the ass to afford, especailly if your one a student budget like me. but defiantly its worth every penny. its a great feeling of satisfaction once you hear your M50( 525i) fire up at 11pm in a quiet long island town where your exhaust echos all throughout. lol.

Haha man. I'm separated from the bustlin' burb by about 4 minutes of country driving. Its great to go out after dark, turn on the highs and run flat out ln a deserted stretch. Even with my M20 :buttrock

Antriebs ride is definatly BAD ASS... and it is for sell... If I could afford the maintenance bill for 2 E34's I would get it.... One is breaking me though. I am still going through "initial maintenance". Almost a year after purchasing.

Gotta agree with the initial maintenance costs. Unless you find the magical dealer maintained rich house wife E34 you will be pushing some cash into her even if it just for a bunch of little things that have stopped working over the years.

Be patient though, Your car will present itself and you will know. Hell, most of the fun is fixing the problems and then adding rims, suspension etc to make this timeless classic downright stunning. We all know the feeling as we drive into a parking lot and see people of all ages giving your car the once over, although I'm getting tired of the "Must be Nice" comments for my $7,000 classic especially coming from some redneck driving a pimped out neon who has more in his car stereo than I do in my bimmer!

Best of luck in your hunt
