View Full Version : Style 5s on my E34
MvilleArock 09-04-2007, 10:01 AM Just got my refinished style 5s on my E34. Before they were mounted everything was riding good but now I have that damn dreaded shimmy. My question is before I get into suspension do I need hub centric rings for these wheels to ride correctly? Shimmy is of course from 54-62 or so, none at all below 45 and very little above 65. Thanks for the look.
spyrot1 09-04-2007, 10:27 AM yup, you do.
Antrieb 09-04-2007, 10:44 AM It could be that you need new thrust arm bushings and the heavier wheels make that more noticeable.
e24mpwr 09-04-2007, 12:52 PM Get some hubcentric rings from TireRack ($20 shipped) or Discount Tire.
Waynegro 09-04-2007, 01:18 PM The shimmy is from not having hubcentric rings. I had the same problem when a tireshop forgot to put my hubcentric rings back on after I got new tires put on my style5s.
puppypilgrim 09-04-2007, 02:40 PM Yup, you need the hubcentric rings.
ohnoes 09-04-2007, 02:45 PM I had a similar shimmy when the shop forgot to put on one of my hubcentric rings, but put on the other one! :confused Only mine was terrible...upon acceleration of any kind, it would shake and my gear shift knob would almost vibrate out of gear. It was pretty bad.

lol, i remember that. I was seriously concerned; thought your car finally decided it may drive itself into the Potomac

It doesn't deserve the Potomac. It deserves the highly corrosive Red Sea.

Dead Sea, Red Sea, they're all the same. :stickoutt

But you're right, the Dead Sea is a lot more saline than the Red Sea. Couldn't they have been a bit more creative with their nomenclature? :mad
