View Full Version : TC Kline rear externally adjustable Konis, special shock mounts?
PseudoRealityX 09-03-2007, 11:38 PM Alright, so I got the externally adjustable rear konis from TC Kline. Went to put them on yesterday, and the shock mounts on the car won't fit over the threaded portion of the Konis. Box has the correct model number on them.
What gives? There's no comment on TC's website about needing special shock mounts.
paintpro21 09-04-2007, 12:09 AM what shock mounts are you using.
the top adjustable rear shocks have a 14mm shaft vs something like 11-12mm for the standard non top adjustable rear.
your supposed to run an aftermarket rear mount like a GC rear mount that is designed for the thicker shaft.
I helped a friend with this very same problem today but for an e30.
PseudoRealityX 09-04-2007, 12:31 AM Tonight I've been looking around online a bit. It appears that standard is 10mm, and various "race" shocks are 12mm. I'm just using stock shock mounts right now. When I find my calipers, I'll measure the threaded section to see how big they need to be, but I'm guessing 12mm.
Quick search around here shows that people appear to like the Rogue or GC RSM's.
sirius600 09-04-2007, 03:54 AM I went with the Koni 8210-1159, which are meant for a Porsche 911, but have the same specs if the rear S/A TCKline shocks, including the 14mm shaft. In the box, it included a replacement RSM for the Porsche, including a 14mm steel spacer to fit between the rubber mounts.
At the time i just had gotten the JTD mounts, made for a 10-11mm shaft. I was able to press out the old spacer in the JTD mount and use the larger one that came with the shocks to support the rubber mounts. I now have the only 14mm JTD RSMs around. :D
You should be able to find some similar spacers at Home Depot to accomplish the same thing.

I bought my RSMs right from tckline. I knew going in that they have a larger diameter shaft so a stock RSM wouldn't work. I have a set of GC ones that I probably won't be using that you could bore out yourself to fit.
Carlos.
PseudoRealityX 09-04-2007, 09:56 AM So I looked under the TC Kline section for their shock mounts, and that's where it mentions it. Looks like I need the 12mm units. A local guy is selling his Rogue units, so I'll pick those up.
Thanks for the help guys.

I was looking into replacing the shocks that came with my GC Track/School CO Kit. The shock have 8210-1159 printed on them. I was looking into this before, as they are made for a ~1980's 911. Does GC just use these off the shelf shocks, are do they revalve them?
Mekihead 09-04-2007, 10:16 AM These shocks can't be found in the Koni Catalog. They can only be ordered though TCKline. At least, that's what the Koni guy said when I called a couple months back when I bought mine used from CosM3os.

Correct, they are a direct replacement for the 85 to 89 Porsche 911. I dont know what modifications are made to them, if any, but all these shocks start out as 8210-1159. They are then modified to TCK's specifications and badged with their part number. Though like i said, during the shortage on Koni's last spring, the shocks in the S/A kits from TC Kline were sourced from 8210-1159's.
