View Full Version : Question about unusual color
flarider1200 09-03-2007, 03:45 PM I just looked at a 2003 2.5 Z4 in army green! I was told by the owner that 50 were made. I cannot find any info online about this. I am trying to determing if the car was repainted this somewhat bazarre color or BMW actually did this on purpose.
Anyone familiar with this, also anyone have any idea what the cost might be of changing/ repainting the Z? Only 14,000 miles so am considering at the right price.

It does kind of grow on you!http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s94/JBZ426/Lisaspict-029.jpg
epbrown 09-03-2007, 08:43 PM Urban and Olivin (a sort of Olive metallic) are rare and can be interesting. I rather like Olivin with a tan top and interior.

That Looks like it grows on trees. Not to my liking:eyecrazy
esfoad 09-04-2007, 08:32 AM We have the dark green with tan roof but I kinda like that green too.
anpmech 09-04-2007, 10:24 AM That's a cool color, I like the army star on there.

lcjhnsn 09-04-2007, 06:13 PM Here's the Army car at Homecoming on Saturday
esfoad 09-04-2007, 09:51 PM In my business we used to use a cloth tape to cover wires running on the floor so people walking over them would not trip. We used a tape made for the U.S. Army. The color was called "Olive Drab". Very similar color to that car. I never would have thought that it would look good on a car, but it does. Not a flattering color name for a BMW though.
Silververtu 09-04-2007, 10:30 PM I saw it once on the road and I thought it's a repaint until I read this post.
beetee 09-06-2007, 08:21 PM I went up to the OD car and told the owner how cool I thought that color was. So I was back at my car and talked to another guy about it.
Me: I kinda dig that olive Z4.
Him: I don't. But it's a rare color.
Me: Counting this one, I've only seen two on the road.
Him: Yeah. That's the both of 'em.
BZZZE 09-08-2007, 09:12 AM The only other unique green color I have seen in person was on a Z3 MR. It also had two tone green leather interior but a black top. I actually took it an extended demo while my Z3 3.0i was being serviced. Funny, those colors always look a little strange at first but somehow they grow on you. Sometimes it is nice to have something a little different, especially if it is 'factory' unique!
Zuzax 09-08-2007, 09:53 AM Anyone seen Karen O'Brien's Palmetto Green II / Kyalami Orange MZ3 at Homecoming? Now that's a unique color combo. Only Palmetto Green II in the U.S. and the only one in the world with a Kyalami Orange interior.
Gumby and Pokey.

flarider1200 09-09-2007, 01:00 PM well I decided that a 03 with 14,162 miles was to good a deal to pass up. Initially not crazy about the color but as others have said, "it grows on you." Really! All comments to date from others have been very positive.
Thanks for the feedback..

sfracerdan 09-10-2007, 06:00 PM I almost bought one of these new, but it was a 2.5 and I wanted a 3.0. Loved the color.

SilverBeam 09-11-2007, 07:23 PM BMW does not keep stats on how many of what color cars are brought in. While yes, the car is olivine, the owner is lieing when he tell you only 50 were imported, not even BMWNA knows how many were imported.

NONE were imported, they are built in SC USA, are you guys talking about Olivine or Urban green? ....MB
UrbanGreenZ4 09-26-2007, 12:50 AM That poor Urban Green Z... I feel bad that it has to live its whole life with that crappy white star and flag on it. I took every marking I could off the paint. The photo in my sig is of it stock (and it's got black grills now), but the green machine is my favorite BMW and I cannot (read: will not) buy another one unless I can get it in Urban Green. You, per se, do not have to like it. Only the person that's driving it. Personally, I love it.
I haven't seen too many in my day, but there is at least one other one in my area. It's a 2.5 with tan top and interior. Consequently, when I bought mine just slightly over a year ago, I saw one just like the green/tan combo in the Needham, MA area the Thursday before I bought it. It was fate.
Like it or not... it's still the awesomest... it's a BMW.
caseysc1 09-26-2007, 07:29 AM Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, but we can all get behind the fact that is a BMW nonetheless and therefore is due its just respect.
That said, it is not my favorite color but I did not find may favorite color when I bought my 2005 2.5. The color on mine ( sterling gray) is more than acceptable to me, and as my BMW baby, it could never be called ugly, no more than one that is olive green.
Enjoy the ride and all that goes with it, including the extra attention that goes with a rare color.
rieck2000 09-26-2007, 07:56 AM I have what they call glacier green at the bmw dealership... has anyone ever seen this color?
BZZZE 09-26-2007, 08:14 AM Yes. Great color! It is a light silver metalflake with a green cast to it ( GF CALLS IT "MINTY" lol) but I haven't seen it on a Z4 or Z3 yet.
dtothepowerofp 09-26-2007, 08:47 AM I had my M Coupe dipped in pink...
rieck2000 09-26-2007, 10:22 AM If i could post pictures, i would show you my "mint" colored 528i haha...
Althought i would never drive a pink car, that is a nice shade of pink haha

While yes, the car is olivine, the owner is lieing when he tell you only 50 were imported, not even BMWNA knows how many were imported. How can that be? BMW goes through all the trouble of setting up the color etc etc etc etc then does not care or keep track of what is popular who buys what, what sells and what does not? I believe you SilverBeam and have heard this before but I don't know where this info is coming from. Seems like BMW just says that because...I don't know why actually. It makes no sense for a modern company to not keep any records on something as important to it's customers as "how many of my cool car did they make"? Answer...."Who knows..." not us.
