View Full Version : Battery getting drained
pphil09 09-03-2007, 11:34 AM Ever since I installed my angel eyes, my car has either struggled to start, or the battery has been dead. The angel eyes aren't on any later then 10 seconds after car shutdown, and all my lights are turning off. Let me go through the schedule.
1:00 PM 9/1: Spliced wire to activate AE's
Mid-Afternoon 9/1: Took Pics for thread. Car started fine
~9 PM 9/1: Tried to start, but battery was dead. Jumped battery
11PM 9/1: Car started
9 AM 9/2: Car started

8:27 AM Today: Car battery dead.
Could splicing the wire cause them to drain? What damage did I do to the wire if I have to take the AE's off?
Smilez@EuroDyne 09-03-2007, 12:00 PM go to autozone and have your battery tested for FREE.
pphil09 09-03-2007, 12:01 PM I knew a reply like that was coming lol. I don't have an autozone in town :(. The only other car product chain will only charge them, not test them.
ImportFanatic 09-03-2007, 12:23 PM Could be a coincidence that the battery can't hold a charge the same time your AE were put in.
Ianbiz 09-03-2007, 12:49 PM umm un-wire them for a little bit and see what happens.

Fixed.
BMWBurnout875 09-03-2007, 01:28 PM Have your battery tested at autozone...they do it for free and check your alternator.
BMWBurnout875 09-03-2007, 01:29 PM gwt an amprobe or a peice of test equiptment and check it with an ohm reader....

am i right to assume you live in washington state? go to schucks, they do the same exact thing autozone does, they'll test your battery.

Is it the origional battery? Go buy a $20 multimeter at any Walmart/Schucks/auto parts store and check your battery charge before/after/during starting car. I had the same issue recently and it was just a bad battery. If it is your battery, dont piss away money buying a new BMW battery, any 49l vented battery with 850 CCA's will work for half the price.

ledfut 09-04-2007, 09:57 AM Get (or borrow) a current clamp-meter or buy a cheap volt-ammeter (multi-meter). If you're not familiar with multimeters, learn how to set it up in series with your negative battery lead to make a current measurement.
Park the car and once your lights are off, check the current draw from the battery with and without the angel eyes connected. This will at least tell you whether the angel eyes are to blame for your battery drain.
Are you 100% sure that all of your interior lights are turning off?
pphil09 09-08-2007, 08:15 PM So, I took it to Schucks (schucks FTW) and had it tested. He said I had 200 CCA's left, and he was surprised the car even started. Next day, order a type 94R battery from Les Schwab, 130 installed. Put it in. That battery had 765 CCA when we bought it, and the other day, I took it to schucks again, and it read 790 CCA, so I think it was just a coincidence.
