Hank Watts told me a story of a race where he was driving a Porsche 912 (4-cyl 911) in that config.

He had been building confidence throughout the race with holding more and more throttle on the approach to the bypass, since the crest of the hill coming from T6 to T5a to T5 is sharper than the other (normal) way. So he decided that this lap would be where he would hold it flat all the way over the crest. He did just that, and after the crest heard the "zing zing zing" of the car with rear wheels off the ground bouncing off the limiter. He colllected himself, got out of the throttle, then back on. Again "zing zing zing..." -- then he landed at the bottom of the hill on the other side and kept racing.

It's possible he embellished it a bit, but he's generally a trustworthy character ;-)

I've driven it CW once, but over the top at T5. It was a long time ago when I was fairly new. What I remember most is the exit of T8. Very easy to go off to the outside. Scared the pooh outta me.

For any that are interested, TrackMasters Racing will have the track Fri, 10/12, running the same configuration. If you'd like an extra day of practice, contact them.

I was at Thunderhill with Hank Watts in his 'monster' Turbo Porsche when he got about 8 to 10 feet of airborne track going through the bypass backwards I was getting a couple of feet myself in my M Roadster. The crest just launches you if you keep your foot in it. Trackmasters will be running that config on October 12th (day before the NASA weekend). I'll be there.

You going to be there, Jay? Did Tony get your car sorted out?

Car is sorted. Driver isn't but is making progress. I will not be at the TMR deal in Oct. CCA race is 2 weeks later..... going the proper direction :devillook

How about Sept 21? Right direction!

Hey Jay!

I'm thinking of heading up for that weekend if I can get away... Bassackwards through 14/15 and down the hill into 8.... Sounds wierd, but worth a try....

Just make sure to be decisive if you botch the T1 exit -- either head for the pits, or stay on the track side of the wall. Just don't choose the middle route.

Now you can say you know THill forwards and back. :)

Was that some wheelspin I heard at the end going over the bypass?

Glad the vid was helpful.

I know the exit of turn 1 is sketchy. What did you think about the esses (13 & 12) going into turn 11?

Anybody anxious for the ARC/NCRC 10/27-28 event?

I'll be there but doing the CR. Probably won't do the ARC races. Not sure I want to risk a problem and miss the CR.

taking the left side going up the bypass will launch the car at speed. initially i took that side figuring it was shorter distance but then (in my vid) i tried entering in the middle where it crests less. unsure which i like.

esses are a fun challenge clockwise! entry is high speed so on the straight i brake somewhat, turn in, brake/downshift straight, then turn left (then really slow down for 11).

7 is also a favorite of mine; it's high speed and one i was careful to work up to.

That looks like so much fun. T-hill has gotten a bit boring for me since its the track Ive done the most...but this makes it so much more intriguing now! :)

This was my first time at that track. I doesn't seem like it would be as much fun running it anti-clockwise. They did bump me to HPDE 2. I hope to be HPDE 3 by sometime next year.

Here is a shot of a little hang time on turn 5. I loved this configuration and think that NASA should run it more often!
We will post a full race report later on today.

I was up there this weekend. Unfortunatly I was Coaching/Crewing instead of driving. :-( From the our In Car video and spotting from different spots on the track it looked very fun!!!!!!!!!! I almost jumped in our AI Mustang and ran the last TT session of the day, but I was so exhausted at the point I didn't feel like driving a new car and track at that point.

Our JMC Motorsports AI Mustang Placed 2nd on Sat and 1st on Sunday. Both races included a little bit of Off Track time, which had to be regained on track.

Exactly - and after doing a nighttime stint in the 25 Hour, I can claim to be able to drive it with my eyes closed (or near enough :) ).

Nice shot! I presume Donny was driving? :D

btw anyone have tips on going clockwise w/ bypass? thanks

Here's what I remember from the last time I drove it backwards.
T15/T14 - entry is fast but tightens significantly for T14
T12a/12 - really quick, but braking compromised by T11 which falls away.
T11- no camber at entry, car wants to understeer, falls away mid turn.
T10 - faster than I could get out of the car
T9 - straighter than it looks. Most folks brake waaay too much on entry
T8 - as Jay said. It's scary-looking track left. Don't drop wheels there
T7 - more of a turn in this direction. Normal direction T7 is a kink.
T6 - decreasing radius. Needs quite a bit of braking
T5 (Crowsnest) - really steep entry. You are basically looking thru the roof to find the track. The apex isn't visible, until it's too late to make it. 'Feel' the turn-in.
T4 - tighter than it looks.
T3 - easier in this direction, except for the bump midtrack prior to the exit
T2 - fast, tracks climbs thru the turn
T1 - some say it's scary since you might exit looking down at the pit wall. I didn't have that problem (not enuff power). Seem to remember the 'apex' being later than the berm.

Agreed with everything, however the last time I ran THill CW there was no regular-direction-entry-berm, so not dropping wheels was a definite must. It might be better now with the berm, but I'm still not a fan of CW.

Not for that shot. That was me in the car. Donny got some air too, but I think I got just a little bit higher:)
