It should last pretty much forever.

Hmmm, I wonder why I am receiving the CEL then... pointing to the post-cat O2 sensors... it was working fine until recently...

I don't know enough about the internals of an OBD II DME to be able to say what it expects to see from the post-cat sensors. But it could be that the DME calculates what the post-cat sensors should report based on engine operating data. If that were to be the case an O2 simulator could throw the occasional fault since its data will be constant and not track engine operating changes. I'd say to clear the fault codes and see if they return. If that happens immediately one would tend to suspect a failure of the simulator.

O2 simulator?
Do you mean O2 sensor? Generally they last about 100K depending on how well the engine is maintained.

Cleared them codes mult times and returns after approx 30 miles... got to be a bad sim...

If it returns that fast then I'd agree with the diagnosis of a faulty simulator.

Simulator or sensor? Maybe it's your rackin pinion getting ready to fail...
